]hello but i dont despise the church and what it stands for, I dislike the rules and regulations that apparently have to be adhered to…
Is it all rules you do not like, or are there certain rules in particular you struggle with?
and if you dont like them then you cant be part of the church…dont you think just believing in god and being a good person is what really matters…
Understand that what we think does not matter. One person may define what it means to be a good person differently than another. How does anyone know what being a good person is? What matters is what God says, not what we say. God has revealed to mankind that He made us, who we are to Him and what we need to do to end up well. You can call these rules if you like, but Jesus calls them commandments. We can see that people do things that destroy their lives. No one says I am going to make my life into a big mess, yet people do that. No one says I am going to get married and divorced several times and make myself miserable. It happens all the time. No ones says I am going to become a drug addict and murderer and spend my life in prison, but it happens. People make themselves miserable by what they do, because they do not know the right things to do, the rules of how to live. They don’t know or follow the rules. Maybe they don’t like rules and want to make up their own. All they want to do is be a good person.
But you are right. It is not complicated. All we need to do is love one another and God. Those are the rules. The problem is that human beings are fallen creatures. We have a tendency to do things we should not do even when we know what to do. Husbands and wives cheat on one another, all the time. People lie to one another and deceive one another. People hurt one another in many ways. What it takes to be truthful, and kind, and faithful, the good person you want to be is God’s help. We call it grace. In order to have that we need to pray. We need to be in a relationship with God that allows His grace to come into us so we can be good people and have good marriages. If your fiance had God’s grace he would still be married and not have gone through failed marriages. He obviously did not know how to have a successful marriage and he still doesn’t. It is not simply a matter of trying harder, or wishing for it or falling in love. Marrige can be great and it can be hell. No one gets married tihnking it will be misery, but it happens all the time to nice people who want to be good people and have good lives and marriages.
not about how much time you put into reading the bible or quoting its stories…i mean gettingo ut there and really practicing what you preach.
You can’t practive what you preach unless you know how. You can’t play the violin unless you study and practice. That is how life works. The art of living well is learned. It does not come naturally to fallen people. If it did then we would all have happy wonderful lives and there would be no divorces and broken families. Religion, practicing a faith is what we need to get through life. If you don’t believe that, give it a shot and see what happens. You have a lot of confidence in yourself. I need lots of help to get throigh life. I need God’s help. We all do, but some people try it on their own. Go for it.
I probably will not be allowed to get married in the church as my fiancee has had two marriages and he will not bring his child up in the catholic religion…
That is probably true. Your fiance has made a mess of two marriages and the lives of his children will suffer for it. The chances are very high that he will repeat whatever mistakes he made in his next attempt with you. You may not want to hear that or believe it and think it is judgemental or whatever. Love is blind. The Church is there to help you avoid a wreck not to burden you with rules. The Church says if we do certain things we will wreck. You don’t want to hear it so you are on your own.
People who end up in prison had no intention of going there. When they get out most end up going back. We all have a tendency to go down the same paths. I know people who have been married five times. I have a friend whose mother and father were each married seven times. Each time they just knew it would work out. He had seven different men playing daddy.
so yes I am wasting my time as I will not lie to the priest and tell him a load of rubbish and lies…my parents will have to just face the music and understand the church has rules…and take off the rose colored glasses.
I think they know that, You are the one who needs to understand the Church has rules and why it has rules. You are incredibly naive and headed for a wreck. What would happen if no one obeyed the rules of driving and stayed on the right side of the street and stopped in the middle of the road and went 90 miles per hour? There would be chaos without the rules. We would all be in wrecks. You can see lots of lives in wreckage and no one intended to make wreckage of their lives, but over half the marriages wreck. You are headed for a brick wall full speed ahead with your eyes closed. You don’t like the rules that will keep you safe and when you hit that wall it is going to hurt badly and you may not recover. The rules that will keep you safe you reject. No one can stop you from destroying your life and that is exactly what you are headed for. You need the rules you hate. If it is so easy to be a good person and have a good life, why is it that so many people fail?
