I just got a book on Christian History written by Marty, so far I have been sick and have only made it four pages into the book. I have no idea who Mr. Marty is or what church or ecclesial body he belongs to. Does anyone know if Mr. Marty is an orthodox (lower case o) or not. What religion does he belong to?

Is he an ultra liberal person?

He’s a very liberal ELCA Lutheran. That should be enough to tip you off as to why you’ve only made it 4 pages into the book.

Well just let me say that only four pages into the book Marty is already bringing up the Gnostic “gospels”.

That, I would call ultra-liberal.
