Indeed red martyrdom is the most dramatic form, but don’t forget my friends that there are two types of martyrdom. Red and white. They are both real forms of martyrdom.

Red for spillage of blood and giving of ones life and white for those who persevere with the faith under the most oppressive conditions.

The story of St Maximillian Kolbe reveals this to us when he was asked by our Blessed Mother, who came to him carrying two crown, to choose red or white martyrdom.

He chose both.

Some of you are already white martyrs as you have decided for Christ above all else in this life no matter how difficult life is made for you. Rejoice and shout for joy.

White martyrdom is to be expected for all those who follow him sincerely. Remember the line from scripture Sir2:1 Fili, accédens ad servitútem Dei sta in justítia et timóre, et præpára ánimam tuam ad tentatiónem. which translates, Son, when thou comest to the service of God, stand in justice and in fear, and prepare thy soul for temptation.

Yes, I’m extremely familiar with the story. The question was though how many of us would really be willing to do the same, especially if the wife or child didn’t particularly agree with the choice?

I have no problem at all deciding to give up my life for my beliefs, or to offer mine as a substitute for someone else’s. I do have a problem with making a decision to allow someone else’s to be *taken * from them, even though I recognize the temporary nature of this life.

I just don’t know how I might react and couldn’t make any kind of blanket statement about what my level of courage and committment might be. :o

Hi John/Sean! I think we do receive the grace at the moment…not in a hypothetical way. For I do not know how I would react. It would be only by the grace of God…there go I…

I would hope that I could, but i don’t think in the actual moment that I could. I mean, I find it hard to even stand up to my friends when they say deragatory things about the Catholic faith.

When you get to be my age…rejection comes more easily. You are more comfortable with your walk with the Lord. It is a good thing, for more than one has told me that I am a thorn in their flesh!

Right now I wouldn’t be ready, but if the situation calls for it, I pray to God that I will be with 110% confidence.
