Is anyone going to see the new Deadpool film?

I really was looking forward to it. I am having second thoughts now after reading the “parents guide” and Kids in Mind article.
 
Going to see in a few weeks. I am pumped. It is rated R for a reason. Deadpool is not a comic for kids.

I agree, I like mature movies. Swearing doesn’t even bother me that much anymore. Its mainly the nudity.

I know people say how is the human body so unacceptable while people getting their heads blown off is not. I can only say humans, or at least me, are much more tempted to sins of sexuality then they are to violence.

I don’t know, I am feeling really conflicted. Scheiße

I was looking forward to seeing it when the Test Footage trailer came out, and I was excited enough about it that I went to show people what it was like by googling the latest trailers, which I had not seen. Now that I’ve seen them I’ve completely changed my mind. Three things changed my mind: first, the emphasis on his sexual prowess previous to being deadpooled. The trailer showed him in strip clubs pushing a semi-nude dancer against a wall and grinding her, it also showed full female nudity in the rear. Second, his lewdity after becoming deadpool. He and a friend make several sexual jokes about how no one will want to have sex with him now because of what he looks like, and he and this friend trade sexual analogies to gauge how bad he looks. (They were awful sexual analogies but they made me laugh – perhaps to my shame.) Third, he appears to care an awful lot about regaining his sexual prowess after becoming deadpool. I expect additional lewd and sexual scenes, he’ll be like the superhero for sexual liberation or something. I expect it to try to push a horrible message behind all the superhero action: “Remember, kids, sex is what it’s all about. Deadpool’s horrible looks couldn’t stop him from getting some action in the end.”

No thanks.

Also, while I don’t feel tempted to commit violence when I watch violent films, the popes have spoken so harshly against gratuitous violence in entertainment that I feel they must know something I don’t. I assume there is more to it than just becoming violent yourself. We are not supposed to rejoice in horrible things, we are supposed to rejoice in wholesome things. And what deadpool does throughout the film is glorified horrible evil.
 
Based on all the available information and the trailer, this is glorified violence with sex and some nudity and profanity.

Any Catholics reading this: Being an adult does not mean what you were told about right and wrong is gone. Sin is sin. Wrong is wrong. And “not for kids” denies this perverse trash film for what it is.

We are supposed to rejoice in wholesome things.

Based on a couple reviews I’ve read the sexual content is extremely graphic and perverse. The profanity and violence are extreme and pretty constant. I’m not a big fan of the sort of alleged humor present in it and I’ve never been a fan of the character. I have no intention of seeing it.

Yeah he hasn’t really gotten any big screen time yet besides X-men origins. I was excited to see this movie as it isn’t your typical Marvel film. I think the problem with comics is that they feel the need to keep writing stories about the same charactors. They are bound to become dry after thousands of issues or whatever the number is at this point.

I’ll probably wait until it comes out on DvD and skim through the parts I don’t want to see.
 
My sister saw it yesterday and immediately told me, “you will not like it” lol. I could sense even she was not on board with it 100%. She is a lukewarm catholic living in the world who will go to mass but mainly just to appease my mom and spend time with us. I trust her opinion so it’s a no go for me.

Sounds like something my sister would say lol.

I know that I would like it, I’d would probably feel guilty watching it though.

Lol yay for sisters!

I can honestly say, because of my fast of mainstream TV for over 5 years; I know I would not like it. As a teen I watched The Sopranos, Queer as Folk etc without any problem. Now, however whenever I catch any mainstream ‘popular’ show full of immorality it truly repels me. It is 100% true that once you guard your heart and soul and only feed it wholesome things you no longer crave the other stuff.
 
I’ve never read the Deadpool comics, my husband has though. We both really wanted to see this movie and it looks hilarious but after watching the trailers and reading the parental guide on it we both agreed we’ll have to pass. Too much violence, too much sexual stuff.
 
I loved Deadpool in Lego Marvel’s Superheroes. I am sorry the movie is out for me.

Well, you have inspired me, to have some tea that is, though I drink it iced, something of a faux pas on your side of the Atlantic. I guess I am also opened to the whole idea of comic sub-culture. Is it more “sub” or “culture.”

What sells, sells. Until the genre begins to lose money on screen, they’ll keep making superhero movies. Hollywood is the big imitator no matter what the genre. If Studio A had a big hit with some genre, other studios will dig up manuscripts they’ve been holding onto until that particular genre is hot.

Even if there was nothing else wrong with the movie – and it looks like there’s plenty else wrong with it – this would be enough to keep me away.

A few years ago, I went with a friend to see a movie called We Own The Night. I have never walked (or in my case rolled) out on a movie in a theater, but I was very tempted to do so on this one because of the constant stream of F-bombs. If I hadn’t been with my friend, I probably would have.
 
I also note from the list of ratings in different countries, Hong Kong slapped Deadpool with a Category III Rating. That is the strictest rating in that territory: no one under 18 is admitted. And that is the LAW there (unlike the US MPAA ratings).
 
I agree that comics have lost a bunch of their popularity, but two things come to mind: aren’t the movies driving up interest in the comics? I wouldn’t be surprised if the comics industry has boomed since the movies started coming out.

Second, I think Superman will last for thousands of years and become something like Odysseus or Hercules. He’ll be remembered even after his comic has vanished as a mythological hero who faced many adventures using his great powers, and although his origins will be lost to many, some of the most iconic parts of his story will live on in classical memory, including his battle with Doomsday and his double-life as a reporter. I wouldn’t be surprised if a script for one of the Superman films (past or future) ends up as classic reading, not because it is (or will be) particularly good literature, but because it will give future ages a sense of one of the hero myths of this age.
