Mary as a mother

I am slowly having to come to grips with not having a mother. It’s a long long story, but I am in a very hard position in my life.

I see many people, and have heard of Mary serving as mother figure to the motherless. Are there any books or testimonials on this? I would like a good place to start reading on it. I am also looking for good prayers of devotion to God and Mary. Any help would be appreciated. Also, feel free to share your experiences. I would dearly love to hear them!
 
*Hi there–I too am ‘motherless,’ and have been since I was a child. I pray the Rosary daily, and after the Rosary is through, I talk to Mary–I thank her for praying with and for me, and for being my mother, also. It is very comforting and enriching to know she is there for each one of us, as our protective mothers, waiting to aid us with her prayerful intercession. My suggestion would be to after you are through praying the Rosary, try spending some time just talking with Mary, thanking her for her prayers. We are not left alone, when our earthly parents die or even abandon us, in some cases. We are always comforted and ‘looked after’ by Our Father in Heaven, and our mother Mary.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction guys. It’s a little more complicated that having amom that passed away. My mother is in fact still alive, but I think the only way of healing from the pain she has caused me is to dismiss her totally, and redefine what a mother is. Because in my mind it is someone to be deeply afraid (childhood) or ashamed of (teen and adult). It’s a long story.

I am sorry you had what sounds to be a difficult upbringing. May God grant you His peace.

For what it is worth, I think that trying to look to the Blessed Virgin Mary both for strength and as an example and model for what it means to be a mother is a very good idea. May God grant you the graces you need.
