Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The First Reading for Mass today is from 1 Pet 1:18-25. Hearing this, I thought of Mary, “Mother of the Word” and of us:
…Since you have purified yourselves
by obedience to the truth for sincere brotherly love,
love one another intensely from a pure heart.
You have been born anew,
not from perishable but from imperishable seed,
through the living and abiding word of God, for:
“All flesh is like grass,
and all its glory like the flower of the field;
the grass withers,
and the flower wilts;
but the word of the Lord remains forever.”
This is the word that has been proclaimed to you.
Mary was made completely pure and sinless at her Immaculate Conception but she continued to grow in holiness by listening to Jesus, the Way the Truth and the Life for all, and by God’s Grace she continually did the truth she heard.

Are we purifying ourselves “by obedience to the truth for sincere brotherly love…”? Do we listen to the Word of God and obey? Do we “love one another intensely from a pure heart.”? If not, why not??? The first fruit of the Spirit is love. (cf Galatians 5:22)

Appearing at Kibeho in Africa, our Blessed Mother identified herself as “Mother of the Word”:
His Excellency, Bishop Augustin Misago, Bishop of Gikongoro, Rwanda, wrote a declaration on June 29, 2001, regarding the Revelations in Kibeho. In it, he declared: As Ordinary of the place of the revelations, I announce the following:
… It is true that the Mother of God appeared in Kibeho on the day of November 28, 1981 and during the following months. There are more well-founded reasons to believe in this than to deny it. For this reason only three visionaries from the beginning of the revelations deserve to be recognized as authentic, namely Alphonsine Mumureke, Nathalie Mukamazimpaka, and Marie Claire Mukangano. The Virgin Mary appeared to them dedicated as “Nynia wa Jambo,” meaning “Mother of the Word,” which is a synonym for “Umubyeyi w’Imana,” which means “Mother of God,” as she explained it. The visionaries maintain that they saw her sometimes with hands folded, then other times unfolded… For more on this declaration of the Bishop, see HERE
Yesterday, I spent time reading more about Mary’s apparition in Argentina, recently approved by the Bishop there. See HERE. I found much to ponder in the connection between the apparitions of Mary as “Mother of the Word” and as “Our Lady of the Rosary”. The final quote in this link for the apparitions in Argentina included these words of Jesus:
…Many are ignoring the graces of God these days. You must go and evangelize. Do not pay attention where. Wherever you are, evangelize to your brothers who know nothing about the word of God. Do not forget. Evangelize. (underlining is mine)
The messages at Kibeho and Argentina were in the 1980’s and I believe they are even more urgent today for all of us. The Word of God is living and active, but we must open the ears of our hearts as well as our minds to hear. When we pray the Rosary we cannot be merely reciting words, we need to ponder the Mysteries as God has revealed them. Come Holy Spirit!
Mother of the Word, and our Mother, pray for us.
Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us.
Jesus, Incarnate Word of God, we trust in You!

The Blessed Mother is surely pleased with your dedication to her.

I became very interested in the apparitions in Argentina after reading from the link you provided. Thank You!

The link for Rwanda does’t work so here is one , I hope it’s the one you intended.

The experiences of the girls in Rwanda are shocking. Thanks again.

I believe it creates a real problem when you say that Mary was the ‘Mother of the Word’.

John 1:1

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Mary was not around in the beginning.

Dear SJacob,

“And the Word was made Flesh”…(John 1:14) in Mary’s womb. God had no beginning, yet the Son of God, Second Person of the Trinity assumed His Human Nature God by the power of the Holy Spirit in the womb of His Mother Mary.

Hypostatic Union: The union of the divine and human natures in the one Divine person of the Son of God, Jesus Christ. See also CCC 252 and CCC 468.

The Church has approved the title, “Mother of the Word” since it is actually the same as “Mother of God”. There is no problem – although of course there is great mystery – in the Truths of our Faith. The Council of Ephesus in 431 proclaimed that “Mary truly became the Mother of God by the human conception of the Son of God in her womb…” ( see CCC 466). Theology continues to study prayerfully, Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition and the Magisterium of the Church, to understand more about the mysteries God has revealed. I hope you have a Catechism of the Catholic Church and can look up paragraphs 252 and 468 especially but you may also want to read the whole section on the Incarnation beginning with paragraph 461,

If you do not have a Copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church an online version of the Catechism is HERE.
The above paragraphs are in Part 1 on the Creed. Hope that helps.

Dear 1Lord1Faith,

Sorry about the link. Not sure why it didn’t work, but the one you have posted here is the one I intended. It is important to know the apparitions at Kibeho are approved.

I pray to become more and more like Mary our Mother whose joy is in God her savior. God blessed me by my Baptism into the Catholic Church as an infant. I thank Him and my parents for haveing me baptized to begin my journey to holiness in union with the Trinity through Mary. God has faithfully guided me and I cannot thank Him enough for His gifts of Jesus, through Mary and His Holy Spirit. Mary truly is Mother and Model for the Church.

St. Louis de Montfort’s treatise on True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary has been and continues to be a great help to me. St. Louis De Montfrt was steeped in Scripture, and that gives me great confidence in his writing. If you have never read that little gem of a book, there is an online version HERE. I encourage all to read it prayerfully and more than once. St. John Paul II wrote that reading this book by De Montfort was a “turning point in his life”.

Dear 1Lord1Faith,

I went back to the link in my original post and you are right it doesn’t work!!! That is because I forgot to type in the Link after typing the word HERE. When the link is attached the word which contains the link is underlined. So again, for anyone who tried the link in my original post and it didn’t work: now it is truly HERE. My apologies for any confusion. (click on the underlined word and it should work) 🙂

You and others may may be interested also in reading a small book entitled “Our Lady of Kibeho” see HERE. I read this book on our kindle but it is also available in paperback and not too expensive.

Here is a link to the shrine that has now been built and more information if you are interested in learning more.

The messages of Our Lady in her many apparitions are always motherly to me. They seem to urge us, as she urged the servants at Cana, to do whatever Jesus says. By God’s Grace, may we daily grow in our following of Jesus as Mary did – listening to His Word and doing the Truth we hear!
