Mary Bashing......(HELP)

Most protestants are anti-Catholic to a degree. (Why else would we be protestants if we weren’t?) So this should come to no surprise.

Conversely, most Catholics are anti-protestant. And that comes as no surprise to them either.

People handle this in two ways.

1. Refuse to speak to the other faction. (thereby nothing is accomplished.)
2. Argue with the other faction. (And nothing is usually accomplished this way.)

Sadly, converting the other side to one another’s ideas is what determines victory. I don’t look to convert any of you into becoming a non-denominational protestant. Nor should you folks really expect what you would call a “movement of the Holy Spirt” wherby all my.

Talk to one side- they’ll tell you that the “Great Regathering” will be the Catholics becoming Protestant. Talk to the other side, and they think it will be the Protestants becoming Catholic.

How do we proceed?

I think we proceed by discovering shared truths in doctrine, dogma and beliefs. For instance, most Catholic Christians and Protestant Christians agree on the subjects of same-sex marriages, abortion, and the need to accept Christ as Savior. Those people who favor same-sex marriages and abortion will have a difficult time finding Biblical support for their positions, am I correct? And it won’t matter if the person is using the fullness of the Catholic Bible or the King James version - they will not find the big “ok” from God on same-sex marriages, abortion, or that Jesus is not the Savior.

Once we can start from that there is a matter only of mutual education. I firmly believe that anyone reading the Catechism will no longer fear or hate the Catholic Church. There is nothing in the Catechism that is in conflict with the Holy Scripture. If true, loving Christians can then unite we may even be able to rid the world of the scourge of false Christians - the Jack Chick types who promote hatred based on fear: false evidence appearing real.

Scott thanks for posing this question. I think number before people proceed (anyone involved) take some time off of the board for sufficient prayer and meditation. The hardest thing in dialouging like this is to lay down anything pre-concieved and listen to whoever is enagaging us. The reason folks get no where most of the time (probably myself included) is that we go into this wanting to inflict some damage to the other party. I think what needs to happen in firstly we must find out where we agree. We know all truth stems from Jesus Christ who is God. If you do not believe this it probably is not the forum for you. So Jesus is “truth” and we know that for certain.

From there *"truth about Jesus and His kingdom must be carefully threshed. *All must be willing to be sincere and really believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that what they believe in is true and right. If I know something is a lie or wrong and yet I hold onto that thing because it’s what I have always believed or it’s my job or what will friends and family think, then it’s not faith and it’s a lie that must be thrown out quickly. I think dialouge like this must also be focused.

When cornered on a position some folks resort to name calling or they dig up a bunch of **** to create a smoke screen and they slip away. I am sure we are all sick of this kind of stuff. One must be willing to concede if they do not have the answer that they really “do not have the answer” and they will research the claims to see if they hold water. It’s all about being honest. And love must be the guide or else it’s done out of sinful pride. I think perhaps these are some good things to think about, any other ideas? Peace!

You guys and girls. We have a problem. I was just on this forum called talkingtruth.org We need some good apologetics over there. They are completely trashing the Mother of God. Please help!!!

That forum just proves that Satan is alive and well and using Blessed Mary to pry the weak of Faith away from Christs body, His Catholic Church. Those strong in Faith know the good that Blessed Mary has done and is doing for us all. Those weak in faith do not ‘see’ and have scales on their eyes.

Bashing someone else’s belief system is ugly. It is not charitable. But pride gets in the way and clouds people’s thinking.(especially me). I have been trying really hard to defend the Catholic faith while listening to opposing views. But alas, many times I fall short. This forum has not only educated me, but taught me valuable lessons. We must love one another.
