What is the name of your mother, is she on the calandar of Saints to be venerated? I hadn’t heard of too many American lay woman receiving the nod from the Vatican. Are you sure she is not in purgatory and you need to buy a few more masses to get her out. I have one mediator and that is Christ Jesus who calls me brother because of grace through faith. 😦
This post is just mean spirited and tasteless.

I didn’t know the board was exclusive, but that would make sense, now wouldn’t it? I wasn’t throwing dirt I asked a simple question about Glastonbury and it rubbed you all. I believe your ilk threw the dirt on us. Yes, there is something compelling about the Catholic Church. A lot of wonderful things are found within it, and we do not deny the truth found there, but it is often clouded by man made traditions including the authority of the pope. Now I am sure you will call me sniping again, mea culpa!

Is it not true that unless so deemed by the church that all the blessed dead remain in their graves until judgement day and that the soul resides in purgatory? It is not mean spirited I have heard this at Catholic Funerals and been told by the priest that we have a sacred duty to help them into heaven. If you could show me the Catholic doctrine that disputes this I will apologize.🤷

I was referring to the fact that you didn’t stop and think of the sensibilities when making a smart alec comment about his deseased Mother!

“What is the name of your mother, is she on the calandar of Saints to be venerated?”

Have you no tact? You call yourself a Christian??
I believe you should apologize to that particular poster.

Who said anything about the board being exclusive? Did you just come to cause trouble or to learn about tha Catholic Faith? 🤷

I came looking for comments on not only Mary’s burial in Jerusalem and/or Ephesus, but to see if there was anything about Glastonbury. I do apologize for my insensitivity, but to put the whole of Protestantism into the realm of UFO believers and Di Vinci Code etc…we deserve an apology too! Polemics of that sort only bring out the ire of others. With your holding to Catholic tradition so tenaciously you should not slip up on where one’s own mother is according to Catholic doctrine. Sorry for the truth.🤷

You need to do some research on the doctrine of purgatory. Prods believe that the doctrine of purgatory or prayers for the dead are unscriptural. It does not appear in YOUR Scripture. Not surprising given that protestants have removed from the bible all the books that made your hero, Martin Luther, uncomfortable. Perhaps you can be excused for your ignorance. Ironically, protestants engage in Catholic practice when they ask prayers of one another (intercession) both for the living and the dead. If you will show me the protestant doctrine that disputes this, I will apologise. BTW, where is your mother? If she is living, then I wish her good health, if she is not, then I will pray that she is not in hell, but in purgatory, where she will be cleansed of all self-love and will finally achieve heaven.

Catholics know our Blessed Mother (and yours) is neither in Ephesus nor Jerusalem, neither is she in Glastonbury; she is in Heaven, body and soul. 🙂

If you had read above, I actually, as did Luther, believe that Mary was assumed, but it is not a doctrine necessary for salvation. Knowing Christ and him Crucified for me and for you is the salvific doctrine of the church.

I have studied about purgatory and understand it to be a mistranslation that Jerome put into the Vulgate when he was translating it into Latin. When Luther, using the original languages, studied it he said it was a misinformed doctrine and not scriptural. Where have Lutherans removed books? We hold to the Hebrew Canon of the Old Testament and are encouraged to read the apocryphal books from the Septuagint as worthy books but not on par with the Hebrew Canon. Do other Protestants go too far in rejecting them? yes.
Martin Luther was a failed priest, a heretic and a carnal man and no theologian. He went so far as to condemn the Epistle of James, calling it the “Epistle of Straw” and contemplated removing it from the protestant canon, but refrained for fear of being killed by the people. If you assert that your brand of protestantism holds to the Septuagint, then you should know that the doctrine of purgatory is scriptural. “Other protestants?” Protestants are protestants, there are no degrees of protestantism, disobedience and rebellion distinguish them all.

Who said that it was? You came on here with some flapdoodle about the Blessed Virgin being buried in Glastonbury. If you truly believe that she was assumed, body and soul into heaven, why the speculation about Glastonbury? We have another wingnut, a moslem who comes on here telling us that Jesus did not die, but went to India, raised a family and died in Kashmir. But, once again, no tomb, no bones, LooneyTunes. Pardon us for getting a little peeved about something that has been covered countless times on these fora. To challenge this deeply held truth gets Catholics very upset and most of the time, is merely provocative.

It is beyond reason that her tomb and relics were not venerated by the Christians of Ephesus - unless there simply wasn’t a body to venerate. And if her body did exist, the Ephesians would have produced it when the early devotions to the Assumption began. Local churches took tremendous pride and ownership of the relics in their possession. Since the Assumption was no such dogma, but just a devotion early on, it’s unlikely the Ephesians would have hesitated to correct any false beliefs about a bodily assumption of Mary (if they had her body to refute it).

My goodness now I am compared to a Muslim and a wingnut, so Christian of you. How big of you sailor boy. Better go to your gunboat. Read the book, the chapel at Glastonbury was a venerated place for whatever reason from at least the second century. I speculate because I am free to do so, you are not, and I pity you. deeply held truth? What is truth?
You are compared to a “moslem who behaves like a wingnut” and who is also free to speculate like those who believe in tales like the DaVinci Code and such. Protestantism lacks the essential element that makes the Catholic Church superior, that of Authority. That is why protestanism is fragmented into myriad “denominations”, all claiming “truth.” This fragmentation is the end result of your “freedom to speculate.” Interesting that you would quote Pontius Pilate when he queried Jesus, “What is Truth?” Truth is found in the Catholic Church, not in idle speculation.
This is my last word on this subject to you sir.

You are a proud one aren’t you?
What did pride get Peter or James or John?..The truth spoken in Love from Christ, not the Pope, not the Catholic Church. Christ is the Truth! The only truth. It is not an institutional church that has done so much damage to so many classes of people. Think of Galileo, Cappernicus, Bishop Romero and the list can go on and on, when their “Paper” authority and false authority, which threatened their strangle hold on the people, was questioned they dealt brutally with the “speculator”. The Protestant Church does not lack authority bythe way, it’s authority, and because of your infantile concepts will not delve into it, is Scripture and you won’t believeit, but the Apstolic tradition contained in our blessed creeds. My quoting Pilate was pointed at you. In his ignorance he could only say: “What is truth?” when the truth was right there in front of him.

Do not feed the trolls. Someone with a trial membership who posts things like motstraumen is only here to bait people. Once his trial membership runs out we will hear nothing more from him.

I have not seen anyone say anything about the legend-and witness of St. Augustin that Mary is Buried at St. Marys Chapel in Glastonburty where she was brought after the Sanhedrin persecution (Which Saul was party to) in the later part of the thirties C.E. Earliest Christian tradition said she lived in Somerset and died there as did Joseph and disciples of Phillip. The Cullee Bishops who supervised for centuries are “faith” descendants of the Gospel message brought by Joseph and his niece, the Virgin Mary. No one in the first 700 years of the church doubted that she had died and her blessed grave was on earth with body interned. Personally I think the doctrine on the Assumption is adiaphora.
I misquoted Capt who did not say Mary was buried at Glastonbury, but he says there is local tradtion that points to this idea at least. Sorry. I suspect I have ruffled way too many feathers here. I apologize, but a consistent theme I have notice with this site is that any questioning of Catholic practice or doctrine receives venomous responses and barbs against those who question. It is a shallow faith if that is what you are reduced to. I admit that I fell prey to it when Protestants were being lumped together with UFO seekers/believers and Muslims and wingnuts. Paul tells us that we will be called fools and unwise by non-believers. So I should not have allowed myself to be drawn in. I give thanks for all the truly faithful Catholics out there who know it is Christ Alone as the full Church teaches!
