Here are two. Should be enough. (By the way, the burden of proof as to her sinlessness is upon those who posit it, not to those who deny it.)

Worry. Luke 2:48-50
    1. When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”
    1. “Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?”
    1. But they did not understand what he was saying to them.
(Could happen to anybody. I often worry about my kids. But it’s still sin, since it’s not of faith.)

**Interefering **with the proclamation and living out of the Kingdom of God by trying to rein in the Son of God: Mark 3:21,31-35
    1. And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, He is out of his mind.
    1. And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him.
    1. And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, Your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you.
    1. And he answered them, Who are my mother and my brothers?
    1. And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, Here are my mother and my brothers!
    1. For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.
Why did Jesus so facilely brush her off? Because she had in mind the things of man and not of God. Thank God that at the end, though she didn’t understand what was going on, she remained faithful and stuck by Him when He was on the cross. And she remained faithful afterwards and was one of the 120 in that upper room when the Spirit fell and she and the other 119 were born anew.
The way you interpret and misunderstand the Bible is so very sad.
You really lose a lot doing that. You just make of it what you want. No wonder there are soooo many divisions in Protestant Christianity. I thank God we have the Church Christ founded and promised would never error, to teach, govern and guide us and has all 7 of the Sacraments to help us. If you are just trying to rattle our faith, you are only succeeding in showing us how shallow you are. If you are really trying to seek the Truth, you are going about it in the wrong way. Fighting the Truth is not seeking. Praying, asking sincere questions and being open to truthful answers, is a big start. You could go on the Catholic Answers web and find the answers to all your questions. Even if you never believe them you would at least have a better understanding of our Faith. Then maybe we could at least walk in the same direction without this silly squabbling.

I really admire the patience and charity all of you have shown to individuals that are provocative, blamphemous and insulting. You’re better than I.

What I will add to this discussion hopefully is something different than what has lately been going on.

I want to talk about faith. For most Christians and especialy for Catholics, faith is a meeting between God and me. The scripture says that it is only in the Holy Spirit that one can say that Jesus
Christ is Lord. So, basically faith is a relationship with God made possible by God. What makes it so difficult to define is that we are dealing with mysteries. God is an infinite mystery and my person is finite mystery. My person is so unique that there has never been, nor ever will be another me. The same is true for all of us - we are all unique. So, as I see it, faith is an encounter between persons that is beyond reasoning or analysis. That doesn’t mean we should try, but I think that it will always become a greater mystery, more clearly delineated.

What’s troubling to me is that I hear a great deal of talk about scriptural passages as if our relatlionship with God is some sort of legal contract and we need to read all the clauses and provisions. Really, it sound like so many legal arguments to me. Yet, in the end it is grace - a gift that matters. It is a gift which offered to all of us…one which can refuse… A gift is not an arguement, but a wonder and a validation of a relationship. It brings forth love.

Faith enables me to see God at work in the world and in other people. It is what gives me hope and love as really activities in my life.

I am and shall pray that this gift will be more evident in all our lives.

Peace and grace to all

Thats very nice,Paul, but true faith is the assent given to a TRUTH. These TRUTHS of the Christian Faith that are not able to be discovered or fully comprehended by the human mind, yet are known because God has revealed them. By Faith, one adheres in intellect to the TRUTH revealed by God because of God’s authority rather than the evidence given . While faith is a disposition of the intellect, it also involves an act of the will. which is moved by the GRACE of God. These TRUTHS are called “Mysteries”, not because they need solution, but because they involve such a depth of TRUTH that they demand continual reflection, inquiry and contemplation. (Catholic DIctionary, OSV)

Catholic doctrine is that belief must be professed in the divinely revealed TRUTHS of the Bible and Sacred Tradition as interpreted and proposed by the Magisterium of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. The True Church founded by Jesus Christ, and HE said His church would be here till the end of the world, and the gates of Hell shall NOT prevail against it. 2,000 years later were still going strong in spite of the efforts inside and out to destroy her. Jesus prayed that HIS Church would be ONE Faith, ONE baptism and One Church. And the Catholic Church is that. But look at what has happened to the protestants since the revolt. They have divided and divided till they can’t even agree on what their faith really is. Some believe one thing, others something else. Do you honestly think this is what Christ wanted for his people. I think its time to start working together to understand the Truth God has revealed to All of us instead of fighting about who believes what and settling for something other than the real TRUTH. I would suggest watching “Journey Home” on Monday nights at 7PM, CST, EWTN Catholic Cable Network. God Bless.

I’ll forgive you for laughing. Why all the emphatic ‘wow’ drama? You may disagree, but even if I were wrong, it’s not a farfetched idea. It’s just one you disagree with.

Here’s some scripture about worry:
  • Matthew 6:25 Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
  • Matthew 6:27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?
  • Matthew 6:28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,
  • Matthew 6:31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or What shall we wear?
  • Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Still don’t think it’s a sin? How about, “That which is not of faith is sin” (Rom. 14:23)? Worry is not of faith, is it?

That whole 2nd episode was one of doubting her son. She thought he was crazy.

She’s no ‘co-redemptrix’. She’s just a fellow disciple. My sister in Christ.
Faith is not based on far-fetched ideas, but on TRUTHS given to us by Jesus Christ and passed down thru the centuries by His Church. There are to many far-fetched ideas floating around already.

I don’t see anything that says you should not worry about your fellow man, only that you shouldn’t be anxious about food, drink, and clothing. Christ was worried in the Garden before his crusifixion, and surely he did not sin.

It never specified that Mary thought he was crazy, only that she went with Joseph’s sons to see him.

She is thee co-redemptrix, mediatrix, and queen. She is our mother.
Christ wasn’t worried in the Garden, he was horrified at the upcoming prospect of becoming sin for us and being separated from God. There was no sin in that. There’s a difference between being concerned about your fellow man and worrying about him. One is not sin, the other is. Worry says God is not in control. Concern says, God please take control and do your good work.

I thought the Church was your mother. Do you have two?

The way you interpret and misunderstand the Bible is so very sad.
You really lose a lot doing that. You just make of it what you want. No wonder there are soooo many divisions in Protestant Christianity.
What’s sad about it? I don’t make of it what I want. Seems to me the Catholics bend over backwards to read into Scriptures a tradition that’s not there, an immaculate Mary, when the clear reading of Scripture is that she’s just like all of us. If my son claimed the things about himself Jesus did, I’d be tempted to think he’s crazy, too. I’d probably have handled it worse than Mary did.
…If you are really trying to seek the Truth, you are going about it in the wrong way.
I was brought up Catholic. I know all about these doctrines. I know where Scriptures end and man-made traditions begin. Been to Catholic answers numerous times, listened to Jimmy, Tim, Karl, Mitch. I’m trying to help.

Halo Taliesin,
Peace.🙂
I hope this will clear things up.
Luke 2:48-50 The anxiety here you are referring by Christ’s parents are just normal.
Peace to you, too.
I know they’re normal. I’d have them too. But they’re as normal as sin. Somehow (we don’t have all the details), Jesus knew that their concern (not a sin) turned into worry (sin), and thus lovingly rebuked them for it.
Mary is full of faith and obedient and trusting to God these three are some of her characteristics just like her son Jesus. “Luke 1:38Be it done to me according to Your words.”
At the wedding at Cana we can also see how trusting is Mary to her Son
yep. full of faith. I agree. But not always. But as I said before, she stuck by Him till the end (and the new beginning).
Anxiety is a feeling of worry/nervousness/agitation.
Doubt is to feel unconvinced or not to trust somebody/something.
Even the Lord in His agony in the garden felt a tremendous mental agitation but still obeyed the Father’s will =Luke 22:41-44 After withdrawing about a stone’s throw from them and kneeling, he prayed, saying, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me; still, not my will but yours be done.” (And to strengthen him an angel from heaven appeared to him. He was in such agony and he prayed so fervently that his sweat became like drops of blood falling on the ground.)
I consider this not worry but revulsion and, yes, agitation. Somehow, in sinners, such agitation turns to worry in how we respond, and that’s where it becomes sin. In Mary it did (hence Jesus’s light rebuke), but in Jesus it didn’t (hence “not my will but thine”).
In these passage Jesus was truly sayin’ that those whoever does the will of God are my mother & brothers in order to educate the people around him, but, Jesus didn’t and wouldn’t:nope: disrespect His mother Mary(WOMAN) if Jesus disrespected the His mother He will sin and sin is His enemy just as the Woman is the enemy of the sin.
“If any man hate not…” I don’t say He disrespected her, but put His earthly relationship to her in the right place. She was His earthly mother, and we are to regard no one from a fleshly perspective any more. In other words, hold on loosely, let the dead bury their dead, etc. This is why “those who do the will of My Father are My mother and sister and brother”. Thank God she became one of those.
In this passage Mark 3:31-35 it didn’t say that Mary thought her son was crazy. She only went with Joseph’s son to see her son.
Just remember she is the WOMAN who is the enemy of sin.
Verse 21 says it. It says “His family”, but that includes her. She didn’t protest when she should have, and indeed went with them to retrieve Him.

God bless you back.

If you read this with a predetermined sense of looking for fault why not point out that Christ may appear to be speaking rather disrespectfully to his parents? That would be against the fourth commandment ( honor your Father and Mother) and we know he would not do that. So the meaning of the passage is deeper than that.

Mary asks her son for a reason for the anguish they have been through, and any type of human feeling is not a sin. It is only how you react to your emotions. Mary seeks understanding about what the purpose for her trial is. We can see a higher purpose in that Christ is preparing her for the three days he would be in the tomb.

Also, I found an interesting article on a Hebrew/Catholic site which
shows that this image of a mother and her child was part of the Jewish mystic tradition. Here is a quote from the Rabbi’s article:
“ *… His mother came and said to them, ‘Masters, please look on my son with a good eye.’ They said to her, ‘Happy are you, worthy woman! Singled out from among all women! The Blessed Holy One has selected your portion, raised your banner above all women of the world.’

The Child said, ‘I am not afraid of the evil eye, for I am the son of a great and precious fish, and fish do not fear the evil eye, as it is written, ‘They shall multiply like fish in the midst of the earth’ (Genesis 48:16). This blessing includes protection from the evil eye, for we have learned: ‘Just as fish of the sea are covered by water and are immune to the evil eye etc [so the descendants of Joseph are immune to the evil eye].’ ‘In the midst of the earth,’ indeed ‘among human beings on earth’.

They said, ‘Son, Angel of YHVH! There is no evil eye in us, we do not come from the side of the evil eye. The Blessed Holy One is covering you with His wings.’

They kissed him as before and said: ‘Come, let us bless,’ I-Ie said, ‘I will bless, because everything you’ve heard until now was from me, I will fulfill the verse: One whose eye is generous will be blessed. Read it: ‘will bless’. Why? ‘Because he gave of his own bread to the needy’ (Prov. 22:9). From the bread and food of my Torah you have eaten.’*

hebrewcatholic.org/eucharistandjewi.html

Here you can see the text from the ancient writings foretold Mary being called “blessed” as well as the image of a “child” that would
reveal Himself as the source for the food of the Old testament, which was the Torah. The text beautifully explains the mystery of the gospel.

Note that the mother pleads that they will recognize her son with a good eye and at the end when he explains the temple is His Father’s house they remain blinded.

(Could happen to anybody. I often worry about my kids. But it’s still sin, since it’s not of faith.)

I don’t think Jesus is brushing her off ( again he would not break the commandment to honor His Mother)
but he is pointing out to those in the house that Mary is His Mother, first of all disciples, because she heard the word of God and received it fully.

Christ wasn’t worried in the Garden, he was horrified at the upcoming prospect of becoming sin for us and being separated from God. There was no sin in that. :rotfl: Now I see. Your twisting things to fit your belif, rather disbelif.
Worry:
to torment oneself with or suffer from disturbing thoughts;fret.

Concern:
to trouble, worry, or disquiet

Yes Christ was indeed worried in the garden.

I thought the Church was your mother. Do you have two?
Yes, three actually; Heavenly, spirtiual and biological. Mary is our mother in heaven, the Church is our spirtual mother, and our biological mothers on earth. Mary is the greater of the three, because she is the mother of other two.

Peace to you, too.
I know they’re normal. I’d have them too. But they’re as normal as sin. Somehow (we don’t have all the details), Jesus knew that their concern (not a sin) turned into worry (sin), and thus lovingly rebuked them for it.
Forgive me, I don’t mean to act like 2ndGen but

Your ignorance is astounding. It truely is. Your passing judgment on Mary based on a few vague passages in a book that has been translated revised and re-translated for the better part of two millionia.
She always was “one of those” now if you would only follow her example.
Verse 21 says it. It says “His family”, but that includes her. She didn’t protest when she should have, and indeed went with them to retrieve Him.
How do you know? It says she went with them. Prehaps she went because she was trying to convince them that he wasn’t crazy.Prehaps it was one of those “Go and see for yourselves and then I’ll say I told you so.” moments (Of course Mary would never say that, but i’m trying to make a point).
God bless you back.
God save you.

To Taliesin, I agree with Black Rose:
Mark 3: 21-35
21 And when his friends heard it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.
22 And the scribes that came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and, By the prince of the demons casteth he out the demons.
23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?
24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.
26 And if Satan hath rise up against himself, and is divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
27 But no one can enter into the house of the strong man, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.
28 Verily I say unto you, All their sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and their blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
29 but whosoever shall blaspheme against the Holy Spirit hath never forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin:
30 because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.
31 And there come his mother and his brethren; and, standing without, they sent unto him, calling him.
32 And a multitude was sitting about him; and they say unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.
33 And he answereth them, and saith, Who is my mother and my brethren?
34 And looking round on them that sat round about him, he saith, Behold, my mother and my brethren!
35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

I believe the whole passage here shows that the people who had spiritual blindness were not Mary and Christ’s brethren but the people in the house who were accusing Christ of throwing demons out by a demon. Remember that according to Jewish thought, sin was handed down in family lines. This gospel shows the gossip that continued that Mary had become pregnant in an impure manner. Jesus rebukes those who are saying this by telling them His house is not divided…He also talks of the strong man who guards his house and warns against blaspheming against the work of the Holy Spirit. In this way he is telling the crowd that His parentage is Holy not sinful and that His mother is a work of the Holy Spirit just as His conception and birth are. If Mary had belonged to Satan through original sin then Christ would have had a divided house from the beginning. He guarded her from conception showing he is the strong man and he maintained unity in his house by preserving Mary from stain of sin. His final words were not a rebuke against mary but rather a compliment or the highest order because he was telling the crowd what made Mary his mother…that she always was open to God’s Will and did it perfectly. Mary is the physical image of the Holy Spirit, her spouse. She mirrors him perfectly in all things.

God Bless, MaryJohnZ

Halo Taliesin,
Peace.🙂

Doubt is to feel unconvinced or not to trust somebody/something.

As anxiety is defined as a feeling of worry/nervousness/agitation

Yes anxiety is normal to every living creatures.
And this is true, anxiety MAY OR MAY NOT lead you to sin.

What most non-Catholics and Catholics who turned-away from Her(the Church) are pointing out is that MARY SINNED, right?
I was one of those who turned-away from Catholic Faith and was one of those who really attack(not literally) Mary that she sinned by proving, explaining and correcting by the use of the Bible.

But in Gensis 3:15 a question popped out in my mind, here it is, "If the woman(enemy of sin) is the enemy of the serpent(father of sin), and his(serpents) offspring and her(Mary) offspring; He(Jesus=enemy of sin) will strike at your head, while you(Satan=father of sin) strike at his(Jesus) heel.

Then MARY is the NEW perfect EVE. = (enemy of sin)
And JESUS is the NEW perfect ADAM. = (enemy of sin)

And she said yes to God “Be it done to me according to your word”. In Mary’s time, the punishment for being pregnant without a husband is by STONING TO DEATH. And Mary fully trusted and offered herself to the HOLY GOD.

In my mind, I said (Genesis 3:15), “God said this?” If God said this, all of the things I’ve exlained against Mary are misinterpretations of the Bible, there must be is someone who have an authority for a right/proper explanation for those accusations against Mary, and thinking the Catholic Church is the one who is and was always defending Mary position.

When I see my mom teaching kids especially Mary & the rosary I always correct her. But my mom is strong to her Catholic faith. And to my thinking "What is this Catholic Church? Who is its founder? Then I saw through the history books that it is the one church which Christ founded. This things made me really think.
One day I got hospitalized for 5 days and got well. And the next day my mom brought me to the parish as sort of reconcialliation to the Church. The same day was also a celebration of Mary’s birthday Sept.8 which Catholics celebrates. At around 9pm my mom told us(her 3 children) “Let’s pray the rosary”, she said to my sister to lead the rosary, but my sister hesitated because she was not in the mood to pray, so eagerly I said to my mom “I will lead” coz I still remember how to pray it. I prayed the rosary with all of my heart, meanting what I say and pray. After we slept. In morning, I rushed in my parents room, I was so happy that morning. I told them that I had dream.

Here is what I dreamt. In my dream I was in my room, when somebody open our front gate. I thought it was a thief, so I ran to the back door to meet with the thief. I stopped at the front main door of house, and I saw this woman standing & facing away from me and wearing a very white mantel on her head down to the feet. And my parents were in front of her smiling heavenly. So I decided to see who she is. When I looked at her face, our eyes met, in mind instantly I said Mother Mary(not Mary) she looked at me(she is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen, so beautiful you can’t even paint. Full of humility and in great pain.) As our eyes met one thing she said to me(without opening here lips) that struck me, she said “My son, why are you hurting me?” Then I woke up after she said it.
I said this to you whether you believe it or not the choice is still your.

She made me go back to the Catholic Faith.
God bless you back.
Jesus bless you & Mama Mary loves you.
:signofcross:

ericktiu thank you for sharing this with us. I almost cried reading it. God is truely a wonderful loving God to give us such a perfect, holy, and wonderful woman to be our Mother.

Poll:
Should the BV be dogmatically declared as Co-Redemptrix
Yes - The title is fitting and correct for the Mother of God
No - Such a title would be confusing, divisive, and unnecessary.
I wasn’t sure how to vote at first. Yes, I believe the title is fitting and correct for the Mother of God. And at the same time, I believe that the title is confusing, devisive–not because the title is wrong, but because it lends itself to misinterpretation.

Is it unnecessary for the Church to officially declare Mary as the co-Redeptrix? It may not be necessary, but if it is an apt description, we shouldn’t pretend that it isn’t just to appease Protestants.

I think there is a lot of confusion here, even among faithful Catholics. Some seem to believe the title is implying that Mary has the power to save us. She doesn’t. Mary cannot redeem us beside Christ, under Him or with Him. Redemptrix doesn’t mean that Mary is a female redeemer. Redemptrix doesn’t mean that she redeems, but in a smaller way. My understanding is that Redemptrix means that Mary participates in our salvation. This is a far different role than that of the One Redeemer.

“Co-” means “with”. The “co-” in co-redemptrix refers to Mary working alongside us as we "work out our salvation with fear and trembling". Mary is participating in our redemption with us as we participate in our own redemption.

**"So then, my beloved, obedient as you have always been, not only when I am present but all the more now when I am absent, work out your salvation with fear and trembling. For God is the one who, for his good purpose, works in you both to desire and to work (Phillipians 2:10-12)." **

Mary cannot redeem us. We cannot redeem ourselves. Only Christ can Redeem. Christ does not force redemption upon us. We must freely choose to follow Christ – and this is how we partipate in our own redemption. Mary particpates in our salvation as co-redemptrix because she encourages us to follow her Son. This is not new doctrine. It’s what the Church has always taught.

In the end, I voted YES.

That was a beautiful testimony 👍 . Thank you for that.

What a beautiful dream!!!
I believe you!!!

I had a dream at Medugorje in 1990 and believed it was from God.
It was recently confirmed. In the dream I saw a large crowd of people going past my house up a mountain side. I got dresses and followed the crow. I thought it was the time for the final sign
at Medugorje and when we got to the mountain there was a large roung white shape which was yards across pressed into the sides of the mountain. the people stood all around the shape. I understood the shape to represent the Real Presence in the Eucharist. My dream was in 1990 and in 1996 a poster was made for the Carmelite order which I saw this past fall at a Carmelite retreat. Understand the Carmelite order takes its name from Mt. Carmel, a mountain, and in the center of the poster was a large white shape representing the Eucharist. A gold rim surrounds the white shape. I recognized it was my dream when the Priest explained that the gold rim represented all the people, contemplatives, hermits who have stood around the 'Presence of God"…It took 17 years of hanging onto that dream and finally it was explained fully. I took my definitive vows in the Carmelites this past fall. I read there is suppose to be a Eucharistic miracle that converts the Jewish people and I am wondering if something like a meteor ( fire) on Mt. Carmel will create such a large white shape…I don’t know, and I won’t try to foresee anything without God.

I had a dream about the Blessed Mother as well. I was thinking about “milkweed” as a plant and I dreamed that God created the plant as a medicinal plant, the seed pods represent the swaddled Christ child and the milky sap ( which Indians did use to heal wounds) as a remembrance of the milk which Christ fed upon from Mary’s breasts. ( I was saying the Hail Mary of Gold prayer a lot). The God showed me a great box and on the box was written
" The Queenship of Mary". I understood that the Queenship of Mary would be a medicine to heal the world.

That was another dream…believe it or not…

I believe this title will bring about Mary’s Queenship. Your dream about Mary reminds me of Saint Paul’s experience hearing Christ’s voice " Saul, Saul, wht are you persecuting me" Christians who don’t recognize the unique role of Mary as Mother of our Redeemer are persecuting her and her Son without realizing it.

Halo MaryJohn,
Thank you. I believe in you too.

Yes it sounded like what happened to Paul. Only mine was in a dream. She is so beautiful. A beauty so perfect, so holy. When you see Mother Mary it’s like seeing Jesus, you’ll feel the very strong connection of Mary and Jesus. I guess that’s why Jesus and Mary are called the “Twin Hearts”.
And one more thing, you can feel she’s so busy praying for souls.

God bless u. 🙂

That is really beautiful that God and His Mother gave you that gift. Mary and Jesus must love you very much.

I think one problem in proclaiming that Mary has a special connection to Jesus is everyone tends to want to be on a equal level of holiness and there always have been people who have been specially called by God to higher roles. It is a chronic disease in the old Testmament for this to bring about divison and jealousy and rivalry but people who have the humility to recognize the gifts God gives others and to know that God will give them a gift too…there is not reason to be jealous. Sometimes they gift we receive is just the ability to acknowledge the gift in the other.
I think this tile “Mediatrix of all Graces” is simply a gift we can offer acknowledging what God has done for Mary. And that is a gift from God as well. I think those who welcome a prophet receive a prophet’s blessing…

When I was in Medugorje on Apparition Hill I felt Mary said
"Let us magnify the Lord together’…what a joyful thought. Unity is
a great attribute of God and dividiosn the sign of sin. Authentic unity is something we need…In Spirit and Truth…And LOVE

Thank you for sharing your beautiful experience of Mayr. It will strengthen me and help me when I pray my rosary.

God Bless, maryJohnZ
