Does anyone know when artists started depicting Mary with a royal crown - not just a crown of stars? And does it have anything to do with the declaration of Mary as the Queen of Heaven?
I worded my 2nd question poorly. I meant to ask, did artists start showing Mary with a crown after the declaration of her being Queen of Heaven, or was she show wearing a crown earlier?
eta - some of us converts have a little trouble with Catholic history. I had no idea she received the title Queen of Heaven in the 5th century! So I guess there wouldn’t be a whole lot of art existing before that time.
