Hello Everyone,
It has been almost a day now since the recent Sunday Mass, and I still cannot get my ears feeling clean after hearing what I was subjected to.
Our new music director, who apparently believes that “Sing A New Church” is the international anthem of the Catholic Church, this time put us through ----
Wait for it! -------
“Mary Did You Know?”
(Shudder!)
Now if you all will excuse me, I am going to try and wash again with holy water and then join the Society of St. Pius X
I love to hate bad music just as much as the rest of you!
I found the lyrics for the song Mary Did You Know? and I see nothing offensive or against Catholic teaching.
Jesus was 100% God and 100% Man. As God, Christ is omniscient.
Mary is 100% woman. She is not God. She was not omniscient.
I think it’s a very reverent song that puts those of of who are willing, right at the scene of the incarnation where God came in the flesh.
While she said “Yes” and spoke the words of the Magnificat,
I don’t see anything contradictory in the song.
Please give us a reason other than, “I don’t like it,” unless that is all you got. It’s okay not to like it.
(I admit when it first came out, I didn’t like it either. It was just to “earthy.” Then again, God became flesh in a barn.
Mary did you know that your baby boy
will one day walk on water?
Mary did you know that your baby boy
will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered, will soon deliver you.
Mary did you know that your baby boy
will give sight to a blind man?
Mary did you know that your baby boy
will calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know that your baby boy
has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little baby,
you have kissed the face of God.
The blind will see, the deaf will hear and the dead will live again.
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the lamb.
Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know that your baby boy will one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you’re holding is the great I am.
The Magnificat
Luke 1:46 And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47* and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden. For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed; 49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. 50 And his mercy is on those who fear him from generation to generation. 51 He has shown strength with his arm, he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts, 52 he has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted those of low degree; 53 he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away. 54 He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, 55* as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his posterity for ever.” *
