Friends,
I don’t know if I should post here, but didn’t know where to put this question.
I am trying to start a Mary Garden on my porch. I want to start one in a large pot that has begonias however, I can’t find a small statue of Mary that I can put in the pot or is that appropriate?
any ideas?
thanks
I know it is weird to start this in winter.
blessings,
eli

How about a statue that’s a little larger than the pot, and you can put various pots around the statue?

The second pot could be rosemary. Useful in cooking smells great, keeps away bugs, and Marian oriented.

sounds like a great idea. But do you know where I could find one that isn’t too expensive? Do you think that would look funny on a small porch?
Any other suggestions for pots in the winter/or year round for Mary?
Blessings,
Eli

I think I’ve seen reference to this sort of garden on the internet. You should be able to find alot of info that way. A decent sized statue will probably be kind of high. I think I saw one at a catholic bookstore here in town for around $60. Go for what your budget can take and what you like best.

Depending on where you live, the time of year, and what’s in stock:

Home Depot (under $30 for something plastic but nice).
Lowe’s.
Local nursery and yard knick-knack shop.
Big Lots.
Menard’s.
Walmart Lawn and Garden.
Sears Lawn and Garden.

I got my statue for our back yard from a local nursery, $105 in 2003. However, it weighs a good 75 pounds, is solid cement, and sits on cement bricks to support it.

Home Depot has plastic statues for under $30? I’ve never noticed that before.

I got this great metal statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe for under $20 when I went to a Latino convenience store for some snacks and found beautiful religious statuary at the back. They also had the Sacred Heart, Our Lady of Grace and other saints. I’ve yet to find another store with the same statues. Anyone have any sources?

It is about 24 in. tall and most people thought it cost me a few hundred dollars. It sort of looks like wood.

Here’s a photo:

Friends,
Those are all great ideas. JPUSC what a beautiful, inexpensive statue. We have lots of those Hispanic supermarkets and I never thought of going there.
I will definitely look. So, you guys think a statue like that would look okay on a small porch?
I will take any ideas.
Blessings,
Eli

In our neighborhood they do. Our Walmart also carries Jorchata, Abuela chocolate, lime mayonnaise, and a host of other Hispanic products.

But I like your statue- and idea- better.
