Mary in Islam

The father of John the Baptist of course was Zechariah, and this is mentioned in the Qur’an as well. In the Qur’anic account, after Zechariah sees what a righteous child Mary is and how she is blessed, he wants a child of his own though his wife has been barren. So he asks Allah, and is told that he will have a son, even though his wife has been barren and he is old–because this is easy for the Creator! And his sign is that he goes mute for 3 days.

This is in Chapter 3, 38-41–I summarised it rather than typing or pasting this time.

Someone said on the last page that the story about Mary’s birth was made up. If that were true, then where does the story of Zechariah come from?
According to the Koran, what is the age difference between John and Jesus?

What does Mary have to do with polytheism or slaughter? No need to change the topic, I’m sure all those other issues have been hashed out many times. Let’s talk about Mary. 😃

What are Christian sources which describe the birth of Mary?
I digressed. (if that is digression) to keep on the subject of the inane, I apologize.

The Qur’an does not say. The stories are related twice that I know of, and in the same sequence. In chapter 3, the Qur’an tells about the birth of Mary, then the birth of John, then a little more about the honor of Mary and then the birth of Jesus. In chapter 19 (which is, by the way, entitled ‘Mariam’) the story begins with Zechariah and the birth of John, and then we read the about the birth of Jesus. For this reason and also authentic narrations, the birth of John is considered before the birth of Jesus.

However, the exact age difference (i.e., a few months like in the Luke, or even years) is not given in the Qur’an.

Does no one wish to admit that Muslim respect for Mary can never come close to proper Christian veneration of her as the Mother of God?

I basicaly said that several times–that the entities they call “Jesus” and “Mary” are not those of Christianity.

Of course. Islam is a false creed that has zero truth within it.

I wouldn’t say Islam has zero truth within it; it is, after all, a monotheistic religion.

However, I don’t care how much truth Islam has or doesn’t have. It isn’t Orthodox Catholic Christianity, so the question is moot.

I know that John’s father was a priest. I was mentioning that according to history, the tribes were more or less destroyed, and those who filled the Levitical roles claimed them. I was incorrect about the “when.” The Assyrians took away the other ten, then the Babylonians took the rest off. Please look at this link.

Basically, the idea that there were “true” Levites left is not historically accurate.
Elizabeth was a daughter of Aaron, they didn’t take all of them.

Luke 1:5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.

Also see Malachi, it’s all about Levites.

Hi

I appreciate your post.

Quran is based on the Word Revealed on the heart of Muhammad by GodAllahYHWH covering all three periods, past, present and future; this one is from the Past.

The Holy Quran : Chapter 75: Al-Qiyamah

[75:17] Move not thy tongue, O Prophet, with the revelation of the Qur’an that thou mayest hasten to preserve it.
[75:18] Surely, upon US rests its collection and its recital.
[75:19] So when We recite it, then follow thou its recital.
[75:20] Then upon US rests the expounding thereof.

So, it is all revealed by GodAllahYHWH.

Thanks
How do you know that the words were from God? I mean we have revelations all the time to some people. Not all the revelations are from God though.

So how are you so sure what Mohammad pronounced were truly coming from Allah? Could they be from other beings other than God? Could they be fthe products of his own mind?

Do you have any witness who could confirm that the revelations were from God?

Hi

It has been reasonably mentioned in Quran:

The Holy Quran : Chapter 53: Al-Najm

[53:1] In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.
[53:2] By the star when it falls,
[53:3] Your companion has neither erred, nor has he gone astray,
[53:4] Nor does he speak out of his own desire.
[53:5] It is nothing but pure revelation revealed by God.
[53:6] The Lord of the Mighty Powers has taught him,

GodAllahYHWH is sufficient for a witness, no other witness is logically required, as there could never be a witness when GodAllahYHWH talks with a person chosen by Him.

Thanks

Hi.

That was my question. How do you know that it was Allah? What was the evidence that was Allah? Was there any sign or any witness to confirm that the words were from Allah? How can you be so sure that the words were from Allah?

Ask I said, anybody could say that their revelations are from God. John, Paul, Ali or Mohammad can say that their revelations are from God, that it was God who spoke. But How do we know for sure that they are from God? What are the evidence that they are from God?

Thanks.

Who said the above words that I highlight in red?

God Himself:

Genesis 17:20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.

Genesis 17:21 But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.

Isaac’s promise was Israel:

Numbers 31:17-18 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

Ishmael’s promise was Islam:

Quran 47:4 Now when ye meet in battle those who disbelieve, then it is smiting of the necks until, when ye have routed them, then making fast of bonds; and afterward either grace or ransom till the war lay down its burdens. That (is the ordinance). And if Allah willed He could have punished them (without you) but (thus it is ordained) that He may try some of you by means of others. And those who are slain in the way of Allah, He rendereth not their actions vain.

Why can’t Christians accept that Mohammed enforced God throughout Arabia, though with far less brutality, the same way Israel enforced God throughout Canaan, in order to obtain the blessing for Ishmael.

Who said the above words that I highlight in red?
Hi

GodAllahYHWH said those words on the heart of Muhammad, who learnt them by heart, his companions learnt it by heart from Muhammad an so on and so forth till todate.

The Holy Quran : Chapter 75: Al-Qiyamah

As you would see in the above verses, in my opinion, it is discreetly hinted that the above are Words from the mouth of GodAllahYHWH.

Thanks

Hi.

Are you satisfied that something as important and supposed to be God’s word that they were merely “discreetly hinted”?

Since they are merely discreetly hinted, then you are not sure that they are truly from God himself, as there is no direct evidence to support that they are God’s word.

[53:6] The Lord of the Mighty Powers has taught

In my opinion these words are not spoken by God himself. It seems a peson was telling / recounting what was spoken by someone else purported as Allah.

If the words of Allah are reported verbatim, then why the indirect sentence, “It is nothing but pure revelation revealed by God”? (53:5)

You still have not given any witness or evidence to support your insistence that the above are truly from Allah.
GodAllahYHWH is sufficient for a witness, no other witness is logically required, as there could never be a witness when GodAllahYHWH talks with a person chosen by Him.
In the first place, how do we know that a person was chosen by Allah? With no witness and no evidence, how do we know that the person was chosen by Allah?

Thanks.

Reuben J, you asked:* In the first place, how do we know that a person was chosen by Allah? With no witness and no evidence, how do we know that the person was chosen by Allah?*

This is a good question. How does anyone know that a person was chosen by God? How did the people know that Moses, for example, was chosen by God? Or Jesus? Or Muhammad?

The answer is through miracles–signs from God to prove that they were sent by God.

Moses was given signs–before Pharaoh, for example, he threw down his staff which became a snake by the power of God, and then God sent plagues against Egypt, more proofs for Moses, and he parted the Red Sea by the power of God, and the Children of Israel continued to witness miracles in the desert.

Jesus was also given signs–he spoke in the cradle on behalf of his mother, he was able to feed crowds of people, heal people and even bring the dead back to life by the power of God.

Muhammad was given similar signs–splitting the moon, an abundance of milk from a goat which had been unable until then to yield any milk, food multiplied and water for purification.

But all of these signs are gone. They only served as miracles to the people who witnessed them. For anyone else they are nothing more than hearsay–not proof. But the difference is that Muhammad was a prophet for all of mankind, he was the last man chosen by God and therefore there needed to be an enduring miracle–a proof that could be witnessed for generations. And that proof is the Qur’an.

… But the difference is that Muhammad was a prophet for all of mankind, he was the last man chosen by God and therefore there needed to be an enduring miracle–a proof that could be witnessed for generations. And that proof is the Qur’an.
Anyone who says this and sincerely believes it to be true is, for all intents and purposes, declaring his or her Shahada.

Can you elaborate on the above miracles by Mohammad? What were their purposes, significance and relevance to prove his prophethood? It would be good to quote from the Quran on where to find them.

Do you have any criteria to ascertain that the revelations are form God? In the case of the words in the Quran, what are the criteria for you to believe that they were from Allah? Do you need any witness or evidence to confirm that Mohammad recieved the words from Allah? How can you be sure the words are from Allah?

God bless.

It is a prophecy of the end.

Quran 54:1 The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain.

Soon they are going to start blowing up the moon.
