Interesting historical outline of views of Mary:
christianitytoday.com/ch/2004/003/2.26.html
Has anyone else read Mary Through the Centuries: Her Place in the History of Culture?
amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0300076614/qid=1093440960/sr=ka-1/ref=pd_ka_1/103-1850217-9231838
The author, Jaroslav Pelikan, begins by expressing surprise at how little the Bible speaks of Mary given her enormous role in the church. I think he is right, which is why Protestants are so unable to understand the focus on Mary by Catholics and Orthodox.
