The article fills me with an inarticulate loathing and anger.

Still, if Mary is good enough for God, she’s good enough for the rest of us. *Nihil nisi bonum *and all that.
 
I love the fact they are able to call Mary to have a Aussie identity, cos really she really was…we love her so much. There is a statue of her in my home city - Adelaide, and there is her tomb in Sydney.

But of course as the media does what the media does - focus on the negative
 
She will be one of only a handful of the Catholic Church’s nearly 3000 saints definitely known to have once been excommunicated. Another was Joan of Arc.

The purported “excommunication” of both saints was invalid both in form and in process (we have the detailed records of each). No person who had been validly excommunicated has ever been canonised a saint.
