I of course am quite interested in your report that the booklets passed out at her canonization said she had been in fact excommunicated. I wonder if you could link to your source for this. The priest in charge of her canonization process said that she was never excommunicated, so there seems some sort of contradiction here.

He didn’t say she wasn’t excommunicated, he said she was not the person that reported the abuse. That she was excommunicated is not in dispute. She isn’t the first Saint that was excommunicated at some point in her life, and likely won’t be the last.

Yes, that is why I mentioned in the second article linked that the

second article you linked to doesn’t deny the excommunication happened just that the reason for it and the details about it that were put forward were false.

As far as I know, the excommunication happened.

I am not aware of a dispute as to the fact of the excommunication itself. That is why I was asking mdg to quote the part that says that, because I seem to be missing it.

I am the person who started this thread and made the first post. Since some questions were made, I investigated at further length and saw that she had, in fact, been excommunicated for a few months.
The recent news reports could be read in two ways, either that Father Gardiner, the expert involved, had said, on the one hand, that she had not been excommunicated at all or, on the other had, that she had been excommunicated, but not excommunicated for reporting sexual abuse. I looked up other reports of what this expert priest had said and saw that he did say that she had in fact been excommunicated.
Accordingly, the thread and the title of the thread which I started is misleading. I apologize for this.

Could I please have the source for the following claim about Fr Woods:

*Fr Woods was making all sorts of bizarre claims of miracles, Satanic activities, visions of recently departed people in Heaven or Hell etc) *

The website of the St Catherine of Sienna Institute said that Fr Woods was wildly eccentric and mentally ill. The person who runs the blog said that the comment came from Fr Gardiner’s book. I tried to find an address for Fr Gardiner to ask his source for this claim but failed. If anyone has an address for Fr Gardiner could you please send it to me, privately if you wish.

Just as we shouldn’t be judge and jury re Fr Keating without primary evidence so too we shouldn’t say things which are negative of Fr Woods without citing our source for the claim.
