Today somebody brought up that Mary Magdalene was the wife of Jesus. I found this to be absurd, because of course He was not married. How can I support this belief that He was actually single?

All I could think of was that, why would God marry a person whom he drove several demons out of? That makes no sense whatsoever.

Any other conclusive proof that you could provide me with? Thanks in advance!

We have the truth from the gospels…don’t trouble yourself with this myth. People can make all sorts of false postulations to unsettle you…they may simply be referring to a fairly recent work of fiction and film that projected that supposed ‘marriage’ as truth. We accept the truth encapsulated in the Creed. We know that Jesus died on the cross and Magdalene watched Him die. This is our faith

Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ,
His only Son Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Sprit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.

Christopher we don’t always have to engage with others’ debates if they’re just being obstructive, or even mischevious, or they mean to unsettle us. We can just shrug off such things as their issue not ours1

Bless you!

The Mary-Magdalene-as-wife-of-Jesus Christ error is taught by Gnostics who promote genetic Christianity. It is, I suggest, the rationale for the profane power grab of Gnostic monarchs that is prophesied to come to fruition in the Ten Kings of the Antichrist. The real Jesus Christ said His family consisted of those who hear and obey. Those with genetic ties have no insider status.

Christ’s Mother Mary and His cousin, John the Evangelist, did hear and obey and that is why they are part of the Body of Christ, not because of genetic ties. Race-and-blood cults were condemned by Pius XII in damning the NAZI’s. The DaVinci Code punchline, the final scene, was the temple prostitute-type emplaced in the outbuilding to breed more “Christians” who will reign and rule in the name of Jesus Christ, blah blah blah.

Gnosticism and its westernized persona of Freemasonry is wholly antithetical to Christianity. The Last Temptation of Christ was written by a smarmy Gnostic as well. Gnostic assaults on the truth have been highly profitable. Gnostic “gospels” promulgated by the lady academic has been profitable and tragic as promoting incredible disdain for woman. According to the Gnostics, women have to be changed into men to enter Heaven. This parallels Hinduism, another flavor of Babylonian Mystery Religion as a contradiction of all revealed by God–as do Gnostics. This is Satanism in a nutshell: contradict all revealed by God. If God says don’t eat the forbidden fruit, Satan says eat. If God says spread the Good News freely to all, Gnostics say promote secrecy…for a price.

The Old Testament speaks of the Messiah who left no progeny. If Jesus Christ was married to Mary Magdalene and had babies, He’s not the Messiah. And here’s the clincher. THERE IS NO SECRET MARRIAGE! Marriage is by its very nature the sacrament of a public declaration of one-ness. Gnostics thrive on believing they have secret dogma. What an ego trip.

The pro-Gnostics have to defend the whole ugly mess in the body of work known as the Gnostic “gospels” and that includes their “Christ” raising a boy from the dead and having sex with him. Did I mention Gnostics don’t like women? This may explain why…

That insane spin was by the author of the Davinci Code, Stated to be fiction, and Proven to be, by false directions even driving through Paris.
Jesus was supposed to marry Mary Magdalene, raise family, and become average joker. Good luck to ayone swallowing Any of that. You’de be better off waiting at your Fireplace Chrsistmas Eve to take Snapshot of Santa coming down the Chimney. Also a great way to ask him why he didn’t bring the toys You asked for. OK? Hope you can convince your friend. Might tell him That the Shroud od Turin Has been Proven Scientifically Only By Scientists Only in Last 8 Years that it is The Negative of Our Lord arising from the Dead, With Precise Marks As Decribed in the Bible. Search THE SHROUD OF TURIN, which is All Scientists. Is “Photo” your Friend can look at that Our Lord Died for Us Exactly as the Bible describes. :bible1: and suggests He Did arise from the dead.

And the famed “Gospel of Judas”, reversing his history to picture him as The good Apostle. St Ireneaus Condemned it Immediatelly when discovered 2nd century, as imminently False.

She sort of was…I always view her as the first nun. We had the male apostles to serve as our model for the priesthood and I thinks she makes an excellent role model for a nun.

But physical man & wife…no way, no how. So many people can’t envision a celibate lifestyle…they think the whole purpose of living is sex, not God; therefore they make a completely illogical conclusion that you can’t live your life unless you focus on sex.

To engage in debate with someone who makes this absurd claim is to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent

Well Said! Indeed, Mary Magdalene was a devout woman, who respected Our Lord greatly. That may be why she found Our Lord had risen from the dead, and left.

The stories about her being an immoral woman were begun Centuries later. Is no indication she ever was. Your thinking is Right On and best explained! Thank you!.

There is not enough evidence for this, but there is also not enough information on Jesus life. Nothing is mentioned about his life from the age of 12 until the age of 30. Undoubtedly the gospels neglect completely Jesus human side and focus only on his ministry.
The strong denial of Mary Magdalene being the wife of Jesus, is based on the distorted view that sexuality is evil and base.

Your profile states you are Catholic yet your post implies it could be true that she married Jesus but just not enough evidence to prove it. Are you saying you think it could be true?
Also can you explain your last sentence because I don’t get your point.

No, the denial is based on the Church, the Bride of Christ, knowing her Groom. This might help:

Hi Thistle,
I am not convinced that she was Jesus wife, but personally I wouldn’t be shocked. Sexuality is a mystery and hasn’t be understood yet. It might also have a spiritual purpose.

Such a thought about Jesus being married is blasphemous and would actually make a mockery out of Christianity.

Secondly, who said sex is evil? The Church teaching is that sex is confined to the marital bed and all sexual acts outside that are grave sins. Don’t you accept the teaching?

Not “might have”, it has spiritual purpose. The marital act renews the sacramental grace of the marriage.

Read up on Theology of the Body. Pope JPII teaches on the nuptial meaning of the body.

Totaly False. Sex is not Evil. Is Essential in Marriage, to continue the Race, and when proper. Another gift of God.
Jesus is the Saviour. Is God, in Human form on Earth to save us. He was noty here to have sex or marry. Haven’t heard that the DaVinci Code is Fiction? But some are eager to swallow Fiction, as if true. Good Luck to them. Am Glad to sell them a Couple Tons Lunar Cheese. Good Price, Too. But customer pickup/delivery.
