Tim,

Jesus said to Mary, “…go tell them I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.”

The Jerusalem bible has a footnote.
This assertion does not contradict the account if Ac 1:3f. Christ went up to the Father, that is to say, his bodY entered into glory … on the day he rose from the tomb. The significance of the “ascension” 40 days later, … is that the time of the earthy companionship with Christ is over, the he is now ‘seated at the right hand of god’ and will not return before his final coming (the “parousia”).
I wish I had seen this before. But nevertheless, there were 2 ascensions;
when his body entered into glory right after the resurection,
when 40 days later, his companionship is over until the “parousia”.

When he said to Mary, “Do not cling to me, because I have not yet ascended to my Father and your Father, my God and your God”, … but still, why did he have to be glorified first before she could touch him? Or was it that Jesus was about to be glorified and she was clinging which might not have been good for her?
