Yada,
Those days are not ā€œabrogatedā€ because only the Pope can do that (usually at the request of the bishops conference). The individual bishops have dispensed from the obligation, but the Holy Day itself remains.

The information for the Sacramento Diocese has the wording right

Bishop Soto has determined that, in accord with the other dioceses of the province of northern California, the obligation to attend Mass on January 1, 2010, the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God, is dispensed for the Diocese of Sacramento.

Note: ā€œthe obligation…is dispensedā€

The information from the memo from the other diocese has the same conclusion, but employs a poor choice of words.

Yes, poor choice of words 😊 mea culpa …

I went to their web sites to see if the Bishops had in fact stated the day was not observed and if so had they issued a pastoral letter as to the reason they do not follow the norm for observance and found none …

I was very surprised .- but I wanted to see it with my own eyes - and I went back a few years … Januray 1st has not been observed for years …

FYI: the Archdiocese of Los Angeles has a link to ā€œLiturgical Renewalā€ … funny :rotfl:… I think the limited number of ā€œHoly Daysā€ of obligaion and the easy manner in which we are ā€˜let off the hook’ is one reason why Catholics don’t take Mass attendance seriously - just my :twocents: and no Bishop will ever ask me … 🤷 :banghead:
