I have a couple of questions about Mary that I was hoping coul be answered
  1. Is she the woman talked about in Revelation?
  2. If she is the Queen of Heaven and God is the King. Then does that mean that they are “married”?
This all came about by reading about Fatima and how heart had been wounded along with Jesus’. This is the short version an for times sake I wo t go any further. The role of Mary is something I am still trying to wrap my head around

Regarding your second question…

I have heard that through her child-bearing relationship with the Holy Spirit, Mary is known as the spouse of God. I don’t think “married” is the proper word here.

  1. Yes, that is one acceptable interpretation of the woman in Revelation. Many of the images in Revelation can have multiple interpretations and represent multiple things/people.
  2. The Queen in the Davidic Kingdom, was not the spouse of the king, but his mother. Several examples of this in the OT if I remember correctly. Mary, as the Mother of Jesus, the King, is the Queen of Heaven.

Thanks for the help, and your right married probably was not the best word 🙂
Does that mean that Mary loves us like her children?
It’s not that I don’t not know who Mary is but growing up in the churh I did, I didn’t hear a whole lot about her other than on Christmas or occasionally during the year and actually until someone on here CAF pointed it out I would have never even considered her being the lady from revelations so it’s almost like I’m re-learning about Mary. For those who converted, did y’all feel like this too?

As someone from a Baptist background, it took a while to begin to appreciate who Mary is, and begin to learn how important and wonderful she is. I would check out Scott Hahn’s book about Mary, it is first-rate, and easy to read. It REALLY helps to being learning about her.

Yes, she loves us as her children. When Jesus gave her to John as his mother, He was giving her to all of His disciples. And remember, God the Father, in the New Covenant, becomes OUR Father, and we are in the family of God. (That is what a covenant is, it is how people are joined as a family.) And Mary, as the Mother of Jesus, is our mother too.

Yes, on Revelation 12, although there are multiple meanings in that passage. Since Mary is the one to give birth to the Son, naturally the passage has to refer to her.

Here is an article that discusses the queenship of Mary. As you will see, the context in which we call her “Queen” has to do with her relationship to Jesus, our King. She is the ‘Queen Mum’ as the British might say…🙂

Here is a cool video that explains Mary. Probably the best I have seen so I just wanted share it with you because someone else on this forum was kind enough to post it. I hope it helps in some way with the questions you have.

NT,

Take note of the fact that in the Book of Revelations, there are no chapters. The appearance of thr Ark of the Covenant appearing in the Heavens comes just before the mention of the Women with 12 stars.

A very good case could be made for the Mary being the new Ark of the Covenant. As someone else has mentioned, Scott Hahn’s book about Mary is a great exploration of her Queenship. I believe it also explains this correlation.

Scott Hahn’s book title is “Hail Holy Queen”. I would recommend it for you. It will give you a great understanding.

Also, try to get a catholic explanation of Jesus’ last words on the cross…“Behold thy mother…Behold thy son”…see what this means.

Thank you for sending me that link, that was a really eye opening video im glad i got to watch it.

I’ll have to get Scott Hahn’s book, I have a few of his books already and they are easy to comprehend!

I thought Mary is considered the Spouse of the Holy Spirit. Her Queenship comes from being the Mother of the Messiah. Also, it comes from her role as co-redemptrix. (If you don’t know what this means then research!)

Some people use the term “Spouse of the Holy Spirit” to describe the intimately close relationship that Mary has with the Holy Spirit. I am not sure if this is an official title or not. However, here is the link to the encyclical (ad caeli reginam) dealing with the Queenship of Mary. I skimmed over it and did not see a reference to her “spousal” relationship as a reason she is recognized as Queen of Heaven. I did read it rather fast, so if I missed it, I apologize. It seems to me it has to do with her relationship to Jesus and the dignity to which she was raised for the role she played in God’s salvation plan. (see #35). The encyclical is really worth reading!

PS… Today is the Feast day celebrating the Queenship of Mary!
