I have heard it said that Mary went into the desert for a time after Jesus’ death and before her dormission. Which tradition is this? Anyone hear of this/have something to share?

I couldn’t find anything in newadvent.org. Does anyone know of anything? The only thing I can think of is Revelation 12:6, but I know that’s not what the question was about.

That rings a distant bell. I could easily be mistaken, but I think that comes out of one of the early Gnostic Christian writings.

Just because a Gnostic said it doesn’t automatically make it wrong, but it’s hard to imagine a less credible source from that era.

But I could be mistaken about the whole Gnostic thing.

I wonder if it’s in one of the Early Church Father teachings - one of the things I would like to read more about.

It’s not in the Bible.

I will do some research on this, but I want you to consider something:

Our Savior asked that St. John watch over Our Lady. She would have been travelling with St. John.

Our Lady was with all the Apostles when the Holy Spirit descended upon them on the Day of Pentecost.

Those two events are in the Bible.

Now, we also know that the first Church built in honor of Our Lady is in Ephesus, which is the last place St. John resided. And Tradition has Ephesus as being the final home of Our Lady.

So let’s see what we can find out now.

Could it be a confusion with Revelation 12:6 or a proposed interpretation of it?

“and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which to be nourished for one thousand two hundred and sixty days.”

That’s about three-and-one-half years.

I’ll betcha that is it…I cannot find anything on an engine search…I posted it on the apologist board…

The Mystical City of God is an approbated four volume, 2700+ page autobiography of the Holy Family dictated by God and Mary to Venerable Mother Mary of Agreda. There is no better source if you want information about the life of Mary. I have read and recommend it highly.

Here’s a link to The Mystical City of God:

I think the unabridged version is out of print. On the subject of Mary I also recommend “True Devotion to Mary”:

Was there anything like this in the work, Bob? I can’t find anything online.
