Ok so i have a little statue of Mary, and while i was praying the rosary listening to some marian music, i had the little statue oriented towards me in my bad. I have the vague impression that it moved, facing now the crucifix that i have on my wall. I am pretty sure i didn’t touched it, because with one hand i was holding the prayer book, and with the other the rosary.
Did you encountered or ever heard of this kind of situations?
And if it actually moved, what can i do?

Seek any and all possible natural explanations.

If they have all been thoroughly investigated and definitively ruled out, it may potentially be a supernatural occurence.

I would be willing to bet that there’s a 99.9% chance that it has a perfectly natural explanation. (In fact, 99.9% of all “supernatural occurences” have natural explanations. There’s a reason miracles are miraculous - they are exceedingly rare.)

Also ask yourself: why would God allow the laws which he upholds to be violated? What benefit is there for you for that to have happened?

Move it back so it faces your bed again, not the crucifix.

If it happens again, and the statue moves to face the crucifix, then move it back again so it faces your bed.

If it happens again, and the statue turns to face the crucifix, then leave it alone. I think it is Christ who is moving the statue. He probably wants to see the face of His beautiful mother. 🙂

Keep in mind many Protestants read this forum.

A comment like this could VERY easily be interpreted as a confirmation that Catholics are idolaters who worship statues.

Sometimes statues can appear to move if we focus on them for a while or even in peripheral. I once thought I saw a statue of St Anthony and the Child Jesus move (it was a life size statue in the church). It felt as if the Child was beckoning me to Him.

Also why would God violate his own laws just to play some loki-esque parlor trick?

If God wanted to work a miracle with a statue, wouldn’t he make it stream myrrh or tears or blood miraculously? Or even more impressively, make it become animate and start talking? Like the vision St. Mother Angelica reported?

Mother Angelica stood praying at the side of the statue when suddenly the miraculous image came alive and turned towards her. Then the Child Jesus spoke with the voice of a young boy: “Build Me a Temple and I will help those who help you.” Thus began a great adventure that would eventually result in the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, a Temple dedicated to the Divine Child Jesus, a place of refuge for all.

Now THAT is a legitimate religious miracle… Not some parlor trick or something which has a natural explanation.

Yes, you are right. Probably it was only my fertile imagination who made it all up.
Thank you all for your help!

Our eyes can play tricks on us.
When photography first became a thing, the realism was so intense to some people they swore they saw the figures breathe or move their eyes.

Even if that were true what would they do with that erroneous opinion that they don’t do already?

I have a small statue of the Virgin Mary, there, I hope I havent shocked anyone. And furthermore when I look at it I’m reminded of the Virgin Mary. I also pray to Her for Her intercession.

I don’t go on Protestant forums why would they waste their time coming on ours unless they want to cause mischief, but they wouldn’t do that being Christians anyway surely.

You may have been correct.

I once prayed for the intercession of St Pio, and thought about him quite often and one day I found a 100 lire coin in the boot of my car, how?
Then I was at a friends house and I’d just finished telling him that it was St Pios feast day when the phone rang, turned out to be an Italian company in Italy asking if my friend wanted to buy an Italian meal and have them post it to him! Bizarre.

Then my son struck up a friendship and told me his new girlfriend was Italian.

Then…I think we had spaghetti bolagnaise for dinner. Ok the last one is a joke but the other things happened within days of each other.

Sometimes things happen.

I didn’t mean to say God doesn’t give us little signs of his presence or little reassurances that our lives are proceeding according to plan.

I just meant that for God to do something miraculous like break his own laws he set in place, it would be both an exceedingly rare occurence and would have to have a good reason for doing it.

Signs of Providence are not miracles which break the laws of physics, they are more like “God winks” - him giving a wink and smile from heaven.

A miracle which violates the laws of nature are more like “God punches” - him slamming his hand into nature and changing or altering physical reality for his purposes.

Something as simple as the air currents or vibration in the room due to the AC/Heating system, someone slamming a door, a truck/motorcycle going by on the street. As folks say “when one hears hoofbeats, think horses not zebras”.

I think that you should focus on Jesus in the Eucharist.

I used to pray the Rosary a lot, which is powerful, yet I should place more importance on the Mass and acting on prayer when Jesus tells me to do something.

A priest said: “Praying five Rosaries everyday will not give you salvation.”

To be honest, I don’t think we should worry about whether a statue turned or not. I find it hard to believe that God will send you or me a sign if we don’t need it.

I am still going with mass catastrophic geological event. Have the spiders all evacuated the house? They go first…

but to be serious for a minute. The crying statues of Mary, some people say the facial colouring changes depending on whether Mary is happy or sad. I have a holy card with a Fatima statue of Mary crying. There were three wooden statues made of Mary that are said to be so very close to her resemblance in those apparitions. One or two of them are travelling statues, and at different times, one of them has cried.

I think it cried when in USA. Someone might know more. .

I often try to visualise how Our Lady looks, is there a link you could give for a statue which looks most like Her?

As far as I can find, no “weeping statues” have been approved by the Church.
