I’m not sure it was all that hard. I knew God exists. I have somewhat of an anylitical mind so liberal theology just didn’t make sense. I dare say that same anylitical mind has taken me on a path differently than to the CC.
lol! got it. one of my best friends ive known for 24 years is the same way. hes a reformed baptist. i used to be. he and i cant see eye to eye on this. but we still are like brothers. hes very anylitical and inteligent also. glad to see your where your at:)

Back to Mary is just a vessel…

Dokimas, Catholic are NOT implying in any shape or form that God is created or needs a mother with the Mary is the Mother of God. I can see what you are trying to say that: God is immortal and therefore, wouldn’t need a mother but his human parts do so therefore Mary is the Mother of Jesus, of those human parts. Do I understand you correctly?

What about you? Humans are both material and spiritual. This spiritual is created by God and cannot be made by human parents yet the human parents provide the material parts. Yet we call our mothers (whether biological or adoptive) are mothers…not the mother of my human self…your mother is the mother of you, all spiritual and material parts.

Similarly, Jesus is both God and human, both material and spiritual. Similarly, we cannot separate Jesus from his Godhead or humaness–they are both one within one personhood. He cannot be two different persons because they were would imply two different people, two different saviors. Such reasoning would make me wonder if which Savior died on the Cross…

Therefore, Mary must be the Mother of God because of Jesus the person. Yes, God needs no creator and doesn’t need a mother. Within Jesus, there is both divine and human natures. Mary is the mother of a person, her son, Jesus.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotf: HOW TRUE! HOW TRUE! man are they ever gonna be suprised. it would be so wonderful though if the Blessed Mother would reveal Herself in this lifetime to them. i do not think they realize what they are missing out on and the comforting knowledge that goes with this. i can sometimes almost see Her. it is wonderful. especially during very difficult curcumstances and painful physical activity, to be able to offer up the Rosary and make our sufferings a sacrifice to the Lord. its gonna get real rough in the next few months for me as i train up for deployment. and at my age, its even harder than for the younger guys. The prayers of the Church and the Rosary have gotten me thru alot. makes pain and suffering easier to bear, and attaches meaning to them. nothing is meaningless when you view life thru Jesus, Mary and the Church. and are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. God bless you and yours.🙂
Beautiful, benidict. 🙂
And thank you. May God Bless you and yours, as well. :heaven:
:hug1:

Mary was indeed a “vessel” and not “The Mother of God”. She was the mother of Jesus, and the bearer of God (Theotokos).

I think the problem is withthe terminology you use: “Mary was only a vessel”

The problem is with the word “vessel”. She was not “only” a vessel, but she was THE vessel.

There is much confusion considering The Virgin Mary considering how much of our media (including publishers, documentaries, “news”, movies, etc) are controlled by those who believe that Mary was a whore who conceived Jesus when she screwed the best man at her wedding, while she was menstruating (“nidah” they call it), and “played the whore” with Romans. For those slow on the uptake, I refer to the Jews and their most holy book, The Babylonian Talmud.

Of course the Protestants are much inclined to honour their Jewish masters above The Virgin Mary.

God Bless America, “she” needs it.

CORRECTION

Sorry, this sentence:

“The problem is with the word “vessel”. She was not “only” a vessel, but she was THE vessel.”

Should be:

“The problem is with the word “only”. She was not “only” a vessel, but she was THE vessel.”

Well put.

If you think Mary is not the Mother of God, but the mother of Jesus, then evidently you believe that Jesus isn’t a divine Person - the divine Word made flesh (Gal 4:4). And since you think Mary simply bore God, then obviously you believe that Jesus was no longer divine after he was born.

“How does this happen, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”
Luke 1, 42

For those that believe Mary isn’t the mother of God, could you explain: what does Mary was THE vessel mean?

Mary is not a vessel, not a tool, not an instrument. She is a PERSON!

Mary is a living person who has emotions like all of us. Everything we say about her we must be able to say to her face with all honesty and with basic respect.

Are we going to meet Mary someday and say to her: you are just a vessel…?

Is she just a uterus who carries the God child but has no relations with Him?

Why don’t we want to know Mary as a real living person instead of thinking of her as a passive cold distant unthinking unfeeling “vessel?”

To call Mary a “vessel” or even “the vessel” gives her no dignity, not even the dignity due to an average person. Nobody is just a vessel to God, let alone Mary, the most beloved daughter of God the Father, most humble spouse of the Spirit, and most loving Mother of God the Son.

No one will come to know Mary if they do not desire to. If they don’t want to know her, she might as well just be a vessel to them, but then they miss the opportunity of knowing the most magnificent human being ever created. They also miss the prototype of what a christian is meant to be. Therefore they will miss their own potential.

How could anyone be disinterested in getting to know the Mother of Christ, the one who gave birth to Him, bore Him, knew Him and loved Him before anyone else did, suffered with Him and identified with Him with her whole being? How could anyone not want to know her, love her, and be advised by her?

hi bill, no not that. some of the things this person said about the jews seemed like they came out of the christian identity playbook. the only ones he left out were the bankers and the neo cons. his reference to the entertainment industry. followed up by the quip about the protestants kneeling before their jewish masters, smacked of code phrases these people use to hide their real agenda. i am 100 percent in the camp with Mary mother of God. God bless you and yours brother:highprayer:
