Mary’s cousin Elizabeth “really” thought Mary had God growing inside of her. Mary did not disagree, but in fact rejoiced in God her savior.

No, Catholics are not ‘confused’. We received this great teaching from God nearly 2000 years in Christ’s Incarnation, Life, Death and Resurrection. But the foreshadowing of this great Redemption was put forth in the Old Testament of the Bible as well. Christ is and was the Jewish “Messiah” whom the prophets foretold.
He is both fully human AND fully God. Again, a great mystery which is called the “hypostatic union”.

Actually you need to go back to the original text to know what they were saying. For instance in this case they referenced Lord as Adonai. Which is one of the Jewish names of God. So they were in fact saying it was God. Often in hebrew they replace YHWH or Jehovah with Adonai. I hope that helps.

Well, then look at the use of the word Lord – by Elizabeth – in that particular chapter of Luke i.e. vs’ 43 & 45.
*vs 43: But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
vs 45: Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.*
What kind of “Lord” passed on things to Mary that were in fact fulfilled? I can only think of one. The One that Mary found favor with of course. (See vs. 30)

I prefer to address her as the Blessed Mother thank you and no, it is not the Catholics who are confused about the Blessed Mother, but the 30,000 denominations who are.

“It” was a person, and not an “it”.
She really did think, correctly, that her child was God, though I’m sure she had no idea what that meant, as that information wold have literally blown the mind of a simple person of the time.
It would almost certainly blow the mind of someone today, for goodness sakes!

I don’t think that any of the Protestant Denominations are confused about the idea that Jesus was God and Mary gave birth to The Christ. If you read the OP’s profile she is leaning towards Islam, which would teach Christ is not really the Lord.

yes, for the Jews Lord was the word used when the scriptures were spoken, because they did not pronounce the name of God. Lord definitely meant God.

What is funny is this thread had nothing to do with Protestants. Yet for some reason the need to say something against Protestants was brought up. Kinda like lets attract flies with vinegar.
Still as I stated earlier if you go back to the original language the word Lord in this sentence was translated from the word Adonai… which is exclusively a reference to God. You would never refer to an earthly king as Adonai.

Truely there is only One Lord and that is Jesus Christ Son of God.
Elizabeth knew exactly as did John in the womb of Elizabeth, both knew that it was Jesus Son of God, whom himself being God in Mary’s womb.

However in Sacred Scripture it is “Lord” not “lord” it is significant that the word “Lord” is capitalized. Meaning Lord as in God.
