Let me answer your question with another question. Why does it gotta be in the bible?

You are a Catholic so you know Mary was a perpetual virgin. The Church teaches that so why would you ask if she had other children?

No where in the bible does it say that Mary was born without original sin. It is a man-made doctrine.

Did Mary have other children ?

Speaking about Jesus

Mark 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

What happened to Mary ?

She was with the 120 praying in the upper room on Pentecost and received the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues, just like all the others.

Acts 1:14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

I’m curious. How did you come to the conclusion that it was man-made doctrine and not passed down to man from God? Did you receive some sort of divine revelation?

The Bible says that Mary was “highly favored” (or “full of grace”) by God before she was visited by the angel Gabriel. (Luke 1:28) The Catholic Church understands this favoring by God to include exemption from the stain of original sin from the moment of her conception in her mother’s womb.

The Bible mentions some “brothers and sisters” of Jesus Christ. The Catholic Church teaches that Mary only gave birth to Jesus Christ and understands that these “brothers and sisters” are not the biological children of Mary but “brothers and sisters” of Jesus Christ in some other sense. One very old tradition, found in the Protoevangelium of James, which dates back to within a hundred years of Jesus Christ’s death, says that Joseph was a widower with children before he married Mary, making these children of Joseph’s prior marriage(s) the “brothers and sisters” of Jesus Christ. Others, following St. Jerome, understand them to be cousins of Jesus Christ, with the words “brothers” and “sisters” being used in a colloquial sense for any near blood relations. Given the virtuous characters of Joseph and Mary, I think it is possible that they could even be orphans who had been adopted by Joseph and Mary.

The Bible last mentions Mary by name in Acts 1:14, where she is described as praying in the upper room in Jerusalem with the Apostles after the ascension of Jesus Christ. Presumably, she was also in the upper room with the Apostles on Pentecost when they were filled with the Holy Spirit. (Acts 1:1-4) There is a tradition that she later went with the Apostle John (John 19:27) to live in the city of Ephesus in Asia Minor (Turkey). The Catholic Church teaches that at the end of her earthly life, she was bodily assumed into heaven. (Whether she died, was buried, was raised from the dead, and then bodily assumed into heaven, as an old tradition says, or she was assumed before she died, like the Prophet Elijah, is still an open question.) Some understand the woman of Revelation 12, “clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars,” to refer to Mary in heaven.

The question should actually be is why don’t Protestants of today accept Mary as being Immaculate and ever virgin since the early Protestant reformers seemed to have held to that ancient belief.

Also as Farsight001 noted, why does it have to be in the Bible. Show from the Bible that God gave a commandment to write the Bible. Show from the Bible that ALL beliefs must be in the Bible. Show from the Bible, that the Bible is the inspired word of God. Show from the Bible that each and every book is inspired.

As far as man-made doctrines, man made are the beliefs of “Bible Only”, “OSAS”, etc. And as far as the teachings of the CC, we could say that the teachings are “man” made. Those teachings were taughed to the Apostles, who in turned passed those teachings to their disciples and down to the present, by a man named Jesus, who is God. Those beliefs have been held and not changed since before anybody compiled a set of books and call it the “Bible”.

Not so fast. Read Genesis 3:15. Both “the woman” and “her seed” are at the same enmity with the devil. “Her seed,” the one who crushes the head of satan, can only be Jesus—for no one else had the power to destroy the devil—so you know who the Woman is. Jesus’s enmity with the devil is obviously complete for He is without sin. The Scripture applies the same enmity with the devil to the Woman, that is, Mary.

And no, that woman is not Eve. Eve was NOT at enmity with the devil. Eve cooperated with the devil and caused sin and death to enter the world. And no, that woman is not Israel. The OT people were not at Christ’s level of enmity with the devil, as they turned away from God many, many times and eventually even crucified Him–although they are not to be blamed for it (all sinners are) and He himself forgave them for it.

No where in the Bible does it say that there is one God existing as three, and only three Persons. Do you believe in the Doctrine of the Holy Trinity? If so, then keep in mind that many aspects of this doctrine are not found in the Bible.

No where in the Bible does it say that Christians are permitted to transfer the commandment to honor the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. Do you typically go to church on Sunday rather than Saturday?

No where in the Bible does it tell us what books belong in the Bible. Do you believe that the Gospel of John belongs in the Bible but not the Gospel of Thomas? If so, can you explain why using the Bible alone?

No where in the Bible does it say that all Christian doctrines have to be in the Bible. If you claim otherwise then I invite you to start a new thread and I will be happy to debate it. But you may want to glance through the following older threads to see exactly what you’d be getting yourself into:

Sola Scriptura Revisited

Is Sola Scriptura Biblical?
It is a man-made doctrine.
And exactly which man do you say made it? Who started it? Clearly explain how you came to this conclusion that the Doctrine of the Immaculate Conception is man-made?

And unless you can tell me where in the Bible it says that all Christian doctrines have to be in the Bible, then you will have to admit that such a belief is likewise a man-doctrine.

You are presuming that the Greek terms translated into English as “brother”, “sister” and “brethren” refer to blood-siblings of Jesus. Objectively speaking, that is not necessarily the case. The same terminology in Greek is used to refer to close relatives (such as cousins) as well as other members of ones Jewish tribe.

You know, I have to laugh at what you just quote. For you see, Acts 1:15 says

In those days Peter stood up among the brethren (the company of persons was in all about a hundred and twenty), and said,

You see, the Greek word for “brethren” here is the same word used to denote Jesus’ “brothers and sisters” in other parts of the New Testament.

So if the “brethren” were Jesus’ brothers and sisters, they’d number 120?! Wow, Mary and Joseph really had it going, huh?

Good for you to hack off your own legs.
