I think we Catholics actually have a hard time fully understanding the full depth our our Marian devotion. I say this not as a criticism but because its like trying to describe how you love your mother (which we truly believe she is).

I would like to suggest to you a work by Pope Benedict XVI, “Daughter of Zion”.(writien when he was Cardinal Ratzinger and I think it’s from Ignatius Press). I think that too many people do not appreciate our Holy Father’s understanding of scripture but if you read this short work it may help you with an insight to Catholic Marian devotion that is deeply rooted in scripture both the Old and New Testament.

Guadalupe, like Lourdes and Fatima, are private revelations. They add nothing new to the final revelation of the Father to humanity given to us by Christ. They are only helps to faith, not an end in themselves.

When Mary speaks she is speaking on behalf of her divine Son. She is his ambassador, as she was when she visited Elizabeth. The exclamation of Elizabeth to Mary tells us the Church’s position on Mary and her place in the life of the Church. She declared: “Who am I that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”

Mary’s whole focus, when she lived on earth and in heaven now, is that of being Jesus’ mother and foremost disciple. Her whole desire is to bring men to him, just as she brought him to Zacharia and Elizabeth’s home. As she told the servants at Cana: “Do whatever He tells you to do.” As she stood at the foot of the cross and heard her Son declare: “Behold, your mother.”

So, be assured. In all the approved apparitions of Mary she has no other desire than to bring her Son to us and us to her Son.

If Mary’s words were “another gospel” than the one preached by Paul or Jesus, the Church would never have approved of the apparitions of Guadalupe since the Church’s whole mission is to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth.

Verse 33 says “This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. And the end of verse 34 says- For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more." Hebrews 10:17, says the same thing in reference to Jesus one time sacrifice for sin in the new covenant.

Not that we believers should go on deliberatley sinning, but if we do fall into sin, 1John2:1 says "But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

Now where does the message of Fatima (that because of sin God is ready to persecute the church, the holy father, etc.), fit into these scriptures? Especially where God said he will remember their sins no more.

Each time we sin, we are offending God, no doubt about it. Our Blessed Mother is warning (cautioning) us. All you have to do is see the moral decay in our society. It’s horrific.

It didn’t mention the end of the war. You are just going by your own fallible assumption what the message of Fatima, which is just a private revelation.

The apparition of the Blessed Mother in Fatima was INDEED sent by God. Do you think Satan wants thousands and thousand to pray and amend their lives? The Fatima message predicted the End of Communism for Russia because Pope John Paul II made a consecration to the whole World. This satify Mary, and in 1989, we saw the fall of Communism. In Russia, our Orthodox Christians are practicing their faith.
