I have a question I need answered but since I am new, I do not know if I am in the right place. A friend was posing as Mary at a Rosary I attended. She kept saying that she (Mary) knew what was coming in the future, that is about the crucifixion, etc. I know this is not theologically correct but would like to know how to present this to her. Is there a book that I could suggest that would help with this. Thank you for your help.

Actually, it seems that what your friend was saying might indeed be theologically correct. A few reasons:
  • As a devout Jewish woman, Mary was well acquainted with Hebrew Scripture (the Old Testament). The Old Testament is full of prophecy of Jesus’ suffering and death (for example, Isaiah chapter 53 and Psalm 22).
  • The prophecy of Simeon (Luke 2:34-35) indicated to Mary that she and her Son would suffer.
  • Jesus told His apostles very explicitly that He would suffer and die. I think He must have told His own mother, too. In kindness, I believe that He would have wanted to help her prepare for the agony that was to come.
We don’t know exactly how much detail she knew at what point in her life, but it makes sense to me that she would have knowledge of her Son’s crucifixion before it happened.

I wouldn’t like this myself. It seems strange and unnecessary. Your friend does not need to act like the Blessed Mother; it would be better if she spent her time reading the scripture that corresponds to a particular mystery. During the Rosary, you should be meditating on what the scriptures say, not on what your friend says.

When meditating, say on the Salutation of Gabriel to Mary, it would be fine if you tried to imagine how the Blessed Mother felt during this experience. You do not need someone else to share her ideas and feelings; meditation is a private affair.

I would find your friend very distracting. Although you are praying as a group, I think that private meditation of the mysteries is best.
 
My friend was posing as Mary as a meditation or prayer before the recitation of the mystery. It was beautifully done and very inspiring. It did not interfere with private mediation during the recitation. I had just heard in another post that Mary was not God and so could not know exactly what was going to happen to her Son, but I guess if God wanted to reveal it to her she would know. Thank you for the responses.

Mary “pondered many things in her heart.” There is no other human who knows Christ better than his Mother. I am inclined to believe that Mary would have had an idea of what was going to happen to her Son.

However, after the finding of Jesus in the temple, the scripture says that she was confused about what Jesus said to her. It goes on to say that she kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. Using this as evidence, I would think that Mary had a slight idea of what was going to happen without necessarily knowing all of the details. Regardless, based on what you’ve told us, I wouldn’t be too worried. The most important thing is to meditate deeply on the life of Christ during the recitation of the Rosary. If your friend helped you to do this, then great.

I think the OP means like in a Living Rosary, where the Mysteries are acted out before the recitations of the Hail Mary’s.
