I am new to the CAF so if this in appropriate to this Forum (or the whole forums) I apologise, in particular if anyone finds it offensive in any way.

I was wondering if there was any tradition about Mary’s early life. It seems she was ordinary (but extraordinary in being sinless). I can’t imagine how her life was if she never told lies, disobeyed her parents or did naughty things with other children (who were as the rest of us are, sinners). All these things are sins and therefore against God but they are also part of our human condition, so if you (or your friend) was not like this that would be completely different (maybe wonderful) relationship with the other person.

There really is such a thing as nit-picking.

I suspect that she was a very sweet little girl who did her best to do what was right.
 
There are no known texts that are old enough to be considered as actual historical idata on the Blessed Virgin’s life.

That being said, there are various pious traditions and private revelations about the matter. Her parents were both saints themselves, Joachim and Anne. Her presentation in the Temple used to be a feast day on the General Calendar.

There’s a book called The Mystical City of God that was written by a 17th century Franciscan nun, which includes some private revelations regarding the life of the Blessed Virgin. To my knowledge the Church has not prohibited the book, as it says nothing which contradicts the Church’s teachings or Holy Scripture: sacredheart.com/MysticalCityOfGod.htm
 
I believe there is this writing where it speaks of Mary entering the temple and beginning her study and prayer with the rabbis because she was chosen for special purpose by God. She was there from age 3 until 12. Read 7 and 8 of the following. The Protoevangelium of James

Such a long time in formation of what she was to do, would help her become the person she was meant to be by God. She was indeed full of Grace from the start as the scripture says.

I don’t think the question is inappropriate either.

We can only speculate on how she was as a child. I have been around many little girls. They can be innocent and ornery at the same time.
 
She obeyed all 613 commandments of the Law of the Old Testament perfectly, that’s for sure.

Mary’s life, from Immaculate Conception to her death, was made known in detail to one of our saints, St. Mary of Agreda.

She wrote her revelations down in a four volume book called “The Mystical City of God” and is found online.

Several popes and a number of bishops have approved it for reading by the Faithful. Hope you like it.
