If Mary was conceived without sin, does that mean original sin or sin in general? In other words, was she able to commit sin? If she was not capable of sin, she couldn’t have said no when she was approached by Gabriel and asked if she would carry God’s Son. In that case, where is her free will? I could go on and on with this idea, but I guess that will depend on the answer to the first question.

Thank you, and you may be hearing from me A LOT!

In 1854 Pope Pius IX proclaimed that Mary was conceived “immune from all stain of original sin.” Mary still had free will. When the angel Gabriel appeared to her Mary freely assented, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38)
