Dear Brothers and Sisters,

No surprise to many of us, but always a sign of hope:

…As Hurricane Harvey bore down on southeast Texas, the Rojas family decided to evacuate from their suburban Corpus Christi home. They returned Sunday to a pile of ash. As winds tore through their neighborhood, an electrical fire erupted and devoured their home…
…But the Rojas discovered a signal grace: Rising above the ruins was their statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe — the inferno’s lone survivor…
…Daughter Natali Rojas reflected on the meaning of the phenomenon. “Some may blame God and some may blame the hurricane but the only thing standing were holy things. As you can see this statue is the only thing that survived. I dug in there for things, and all I found is a Virgin Mary,” she told local station KRIS-TV…
…Natali Rojas advised, “Appreciate what you have, listen to the warnings, hug your children and thank God for today and yesterday and pray for a better tomorrow.”
Today as we join in the USA’s National Day of Prayer for the victims of Hurricane Harvey, let us also look to Mary our Mother for her intercession in regard to the present threats from North Korea. Let us pray the Rosary with ever more attention and devotion, daily, as Mary our Mother requested at Fatima, that the world may have peace.

She has survived 2000 years and far worse…it is a rewarding sign though.

O Lord, I pray that the Blessed Virgin will
protect us in North America from the threats
of Natural and Man-made(N. Korea) disasters,
Amen.

The Angelus Prayer

V. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary,
R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is
w/ you, blessed are you among women,
blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us
sinners, now and at the hour of our
death. Amen.

V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
R. Be it done unto me according to Your Word.

Hail Mary, etc…

V. And the Word was made flesh,
R. And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary, etc…

V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:

Pour forth, we beseech You, O Lord,
Your Grace into our hearts;
that as we have known the incarnation of Christ,
your Son by the message of an angel,
so by His passion and cross
we may be brought to the glory of His Resurrection.
Through the same Christ, our Lord.

Amen.

Amen.
I hope that statue is comforting to the family.
I seem to recall something similar happened with the yard Mary statue of a family in some neighborhood of NYC that was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.

Of course it did.
It’s people who never see the signs of God’s love.

I read the “Mary Day by Day” book with brief readings each day about Mary.

The survival of this statue of Mary fits with one of today’s readings about how the Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field (Mary) and one goes off and sells everything and buys that field. Whatever we may lose in life, we belong totally to Mary, and as long as we have her we have Jesus Christ. We have all. We have the Cause of our Joy.

Thanks so much to dear brother Pat, WJeffrey, pianistclare, Tis Bearself, GLAM, and Crusader bear,

Yes, Mary is the Cause of our Joy because by the power of the Holy Spirit and her “Yes” to the Word of God, the Word became Flesh within her womb. Mary continues by God’s Design to bring Jesus into the World – she is the fruitful soil that brings forth the fruit of her womb, Jesus. He is the Treasure she brings to us – may we welcome Him through her always!

Yes there was a photographer who took a picture of another statue which survived Hurricane Sandy also. How Good God is to keep reminding us of His Love given through Mary! Please pray with me that it be His will to turn the new Hurricane Irma north and out into the Atlantic Ocean that it might not cause more devastation. May He be glorified, and may we heed Mary’s words at Cana: “Do whatever He tells you”.
