"How can this be, if I have no relations with a man?"
With this word, we learn that Mary is a virgin, and that she has taken a perpetual vow of virginity.
"Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word."
With this word, we learn that Mary has abandoned herself to the Will of God; hence, by a singular grace, she is sinless.
**“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior. For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him. He has shown might with his arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart. He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly. The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty. He has helped Israel his servant, remembering his mercy, according to his promise to our fathers, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.” **
With this word, we learn that Mary is a faithful Jew and that, along with Israel, had been awating a Redeemr, and she gives us a deep understanding of who her Son is. Furthermore, we learn that Mary is too in need of the Savior.
"Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety."
With this word, we learn that Mary is like the bride in the Song of Songs; as the sign of the Church she looks for God with great anxiety.
"They have no wine."
With this word, we learn that Mary intercedes for man before God in Heaven.
"Do whatever He tells you."
With this word, we learn that Mary instructs us, as a good mother, to obey God.
I know the words have deeper meanings, and they are foreshadowed in the Old Testament, but I don’t know those meanings or foreshadowments, being simple minded.
