Masonic Order details on currency

Why is the U.S. government and the Federal Reserve bank allowed to show Masonic symbols on legal currency?

Since this lodge is just open to Protestants, are they not in a sense promoting it? To me, its no better than if the government asked a prosepctive employee if they were a Mason.

Outside of Catholics I am sure thos of other faiths do not apreciate this either. I have even heard some Protestant denominations are not in agreement wit the masonic lodge.

I eralzie they do mnay good works, but do nto see why their ceeremonial stuff would be on the public’s money. And, I am not really impressed with the pyramid with the eye on top, to me it looks like some kind of occult symbol. What has a pyramid got to to with the United States of AMERICA in the first place?

Many of the founding fathers were masons. They thought these symbols represented noble ideals, so they put them all over the buildings in Washington D.C. and on the money.

Freemasonry, BTW, is open to men of all faiths. It is the Catholic Church which forbids Catholics to be members of the masonic lodge, not the masons.

Masons embrace indifferentism toward religion (i.e.: the belief that one religion is as good as another). Adopting this attitude would be hazardous to a Catholic’s salvation. Some of the deeper Masonic rituals and teachings (at least in some rites) are said to be definitely anti-Christian.

But, the founding fathers were from the 18th century. Now its the 21st century, and hopefully, we have learned some things since. Also, the U.S.A. is now a multi-religious country and there are many competing mens’ fraternal organizations too. It does not seem right in this day and age to show favoritism.

I would guess at one time the “stars and bars” confederate flag was seen as something noble too. Not today.

Not everyone thinks these symbols are the same as their masonic counter-parts. For example, the Eye is not the Eye of the Devine Architech, but is the Eye of Provedence watching over the U.S. Please see this site.

We cannot deny the involvement of Masons in the founding of this nation. Nor can we deny that many of the Founding Fathers were Masons. We can, however, say that this does not constitute endorsement of any religion over any other, as Masons are religiously indifferent (though some lodges have a distinct anti-catholic and anti-Jewish history). Nor can we say that this shows an endorsement of Masonry over other secular groups. Why? Because there were no laws corresponding to this to encourage the growth of Free Masonry.

As an aside, I get totally disgusted by the Stars and Bars issue. That particular flag was the Battle Flag of the CSA, not the National Flag. From a historical perspective, it should not be flown over buildings at all. IN fact, it should only be flown over troops in the field. It is a sad state when our lack of historical knowledge causes us to seem dumber than we really are.

Sure, but now all that symbolism has passed into the realm of tradition. It is hard to change tradition, and it provides a cross-generational consistency.

BTW, what would you like to see on the money instead of the masonic symbols? That could be an interesting discussion.

I thought the U.S.A. was a country that looked ahead, not looked back at the old dim past.

But, now that you mention it, the currency does have a real antique look about it, like something out of a museum, doesn’t it? It is really out of character for Americans.
