What about those who very seldom come out for Mass but will observe the meat abstinence on Lenten Fridays?** I found a few of these in the IT field**.
Vegetarian Hindus? Lots of them in the IT field :D:D:D

For me it would be one who follows the precepts of the Church.

Weekly Mass attendance, Communion at least once a year after reception of Frist Eucharist, Confession at least once a year after reaching the age of reason. An understanding and acknowledgement of all that the Church Teaches.

That is the bare minimum the Church asks for.

A self proclaimed Catholic who denies what the Church Teaches, in my eyes, is not a Catholic, or as some call them a CINO (Catholic In Name Only).
Therein lies the problem. Many self-proclaimed Catholics don’t understand or even know about it or won’t accept it. And many still believe that they are truly practicing Catholics. There has been a disconnect within culture, society, etc. which has probably been taking place over the course of a few hundred years, perhaps starting around the Age of Enlightenment or even earlier, to have caused this kind of change in belief and attitude.

Well, then the number shrinks. If only twenty percent of baptized Catholics fulfill their Sunday obligation then how many of them are practicing Church teaching? Given the average number of children the typical Catholic family has it’s safe to conclude many are using contraception. How many unmarried are having sex on a regular basis? In that survey they found nearly half of Catholics don’t believe in the Real Presence. So…percentage of Catholics who follow Church teachings including making the Sunday obligation? Maybe ten percent?

Is the Church in crisis yet?

I do not think there was a time when the Church was not in crisis.

The problem is the concept of faith and religion has been dominated by Protestant opinion. Many think we can interpret the Bible to suit our own beliefs, many think we are free to disagre with moral principles of the Church, many think we are entitled to run the Church as in a democratic society.

I think democracy has a contrary effect to our faith. Because of people’s empowerment and entitlement in a democracy, they think it extends to the Church and their faith. Not that God wants to take away our freedom, its just that the truth is the truth and unchangable even if no one agrees to it or believes in it. Many think that like a democracy, their opinion counts and what the majority says or believes is where the Church should be.
