Ed Bolduc is a friend and one of their cantors is a a former lead cantor with us.
Beautiful liturgy, very well done. Lovely congregation.

We have a couple of Ed Bolduc’s CD’s.

Our friend. Fr Leo Commings, was stationed at St Anne’s in Marietta until his death.

True. But you don’t see much chant that is secular.
Which is true. It’s not popular. But it’s disingenuous to say that it only exists in and for the spiritual realm. There are enough producers and listeners in the indy music world for people to make the music and others to seek it out. It could be .01% of music today but then one cannot claim that it is purely religious.

In the form it is now it is purely religious since Gregorian Chant was created for Mass. But it is true it could be used for secular purposes. I just find that possibility small.

So, why would you want everyone to hear something read in Hebrew that no one would understand then? 🤔 I am afraid I do not see the purpose of that.

Agree
That’s why I said it’s just my own fantasy and selfish desire. No harm in me dreaming about it.

Maybe somewhere out there, there is a place that does that. Put it on your bucket list. 😊

NO done right! I love how the Mass is sung, how it should be!

Nor do many, many, many strictly Ordinary Form oriented parishes… in fact, I would say its the norm NOT to have this in most parts of the world.

So what she is describing is an actual Catholic parish? I thought for sure she must be mistaken.

There is a guitar at our church, does not play rock style music, but when I hear it I do kinda twinge…

We chant the Responsorial Psalm and acclamation every week, using OCP materials. Chant is just a style.
Not everything is GREGORIAN chant.
There’s plenty of chanting at various Masses. Many Kryie’s are chanted. The Reproaches on Good Friday are chanted for example.

Why? King David played a lute…the precursor to guitar.
People need to understand that parishes are notorious for not wanting to pay for quality music. Full stop.
They RELY on well intentioned volunteers.
Got an instrument?
Know how to work ours?
Carry a tune?
You got a job that pays for your gas to get here! Congrats.

Clare, that is a bit harsh. 😳 I have been in parishes that were totally volunteer music ministries and their music was beautifully done. I have been in churches with professionals that have been terrible. It is really not something that can be made as a generalization.
