Mass at the beach.

How did you get that from carnage on the battlefield?
No, no, Mass on the beach is Ok as long as everyone’s happy. This is what I thought he said.
Do you think it is okay for someone to insult the way you think by calling it “drivel”?
Well, if I’m wrong, it’s Ok to call it drivel. 🙂 Yeah, why not?

many of those girls were hot; shorts cut at crotch level: nice legs- oh I forgot that was supposed to be a Mass.

I was gone this whole weekend. I have figured this much out. If bishops allow things like Masses on the beach to happen, it is still not okay to be disrespectful or sarcastic like I was being. I hope that nobody follows my example in thinking that disrespect is separate from disobedience and humility. Criticism and disobedience are two different things.

I guess it is a good thing that this was announced to protect the sensibilities of those offended by such things. Fortunately for us, God is not as squeamish as we are and was willing to reach down from his glorious throne into our lowly existence.

Honestly, this is where we are now. Reverence has all but dissapeared. The liturgy has become a mockery in most parishes. Frankly, I don’t know what the Bishops are doing. I suggest to everyone out there to not tolerate this kind of thing, and find a good orthodox parish…or diocese…if there is one. Sigh…I gotta go say a rosary.

Masses should be said at church whenever possible.
It goes without saying that mass is usually said in a church and at the main altar, but it does not follow that for a special event, reason or celebration the mass cannot be held in a different place. I do not know why this particular mass was not held in a church, but I can fairly well guess that it was not a usual event for the participants and something special was going on.

I do not believe this is true. I do not believe that reverence has all but disappeared in the Church or that the liturgy has become a mockery in most parishes. Indeed, I do not think this particular mass under discussion was an example of irreverence or was mocking the liturgy. I agree with your desire to say a rosary.

Either way…a dispensation would have been neccessary. Which means the Bishop would have know…or should have known.

Huh? This is an exceptional Mass and not the norm. It is indidcative of nothing except this one Mass which was a specific use mass.

Remember: Wait at least one hour after eating Jesus before you walk on water.

It is true. This is not the norm. However, in my diocese, and in most I’d guess, “vibrant masses” are. The thing is, I guarantee that in 1950 they would not have had “mass on the beach”. So of course, I don’t think this is right.

However, as I’ve said before: There should be no disrespect towards our superiors. Maybe we should do this much. Trust the bishops to be our shepherds. Trust their judgments on things like this. If there *is *something wrong with it, then the bishop is the one accountable before God (because of course this kind of thing would require a dispensation and the bishop’s permission).

However, what we should do is advance traditional liturgy and practices, such as the Tridentine Mass, Gregorian Chant, Organ, Rosary, Chaplets, scapulars, processions, etc. There is absolutely nothing wrong, disrespectful, or disobedient about this. We can advance our preferences, without being disobedient towards the bishop’s decisions.

PARTAY UP IN HEREZ!!! :extrahappy:

Haha, I knew that looked like Newport. I was a little confused for a second…there are no beaches in San Bernardino.
I was confused at first, too. There were priests from the Diocese of Orange, though.

I’m really not surprised at this. These are known to be some of the most liberal dioceses around aren’t they?

All I was trying to say is that the holiest of holies is not meant for a day at the beach. I have nothing against the people who attended, because they don’t know any better. This is the stuff which is encouraged and taught, and they grew up with it.

Do you honestly think that a diocese which encourages Masses on the beach would allow something traditional? If only it were so simple. Your intentions are very good, and I’m not saying it isn’t a good idea. However the chances of anything like that being allowed are slim to none.

Peace be with you. 😉
The second paragraph is right on. The Diocese of San Bernardino is pretty big, yet it has only one EF. I believe there is only one Chapel with Perpetual Adoration, but there may be two now. This area has a huge number of Catholics, too, so some of these things are quite shocking.

Well, to be fair, there are two EF’s. However, they are literally like 90 miles apart. And the second one is not celebrated according to the rubrics.

But hey, we’re looking to hopefully have that number bumped up to 4 pretty soon. One will be in Chino Hills and the other at my parish in San Bernardino. 😉

Well, I was leaving the SSPX one out of it.The Chino Hills one wouldn’t be too far from the current one in Guasti.

They do this sort of thing here too in my area. They have Mass at the park once a year. The reason? They want to have a picnic afterward. If you want to have a picnic after Mass, fine have a picnic after Mass. But that is hardly any reason to take the Mass out of the sacred space that was consecrated especially for that purpose and have it in a place of recreation.

If one has a real reason to say an outside Mass, then that’s a different sack of potatoes. 🙂 Here’s a real reason to say an outside Mass.

I think so. Ironically, the Archdiocese of politically liberal San Francisco is liturgically conservative while the Diocese of politically conservative OC is liturgically liberal, hahaha.

And I think another reason some people are so offended by this is this just shows, you CAN attend Mass in shorts and a t-shirt. Who would be uncomfortably out of place? People in dresses and suits.

Again, I wouldn’t go, I don’t think, but, good on the priests for trying something different. We don’t know. This may be a stepping stone that leads these kids to The Rock of The Catholic Church.

I see nothing wrong with having a mass in a park in order to have a parish picnic afterwards, as long as there is also a mass available for those who do not wish or cannot attend the mass in the park.

If catholics truly believe that The Lord Jesus Christ is being immolated (killed in a sacrificial offering to God) at the altar during Mass, how can anyone behave this way? As I have said before, it’s no different than playing a Polka during the crucifixion.
🤷
