Mass cards for deceased can't go in garbage?

In you response to a question about mass cards, you said that they should be burned or put through a paper shreader. Once they are put through the paper shreader, they’re sent to a recycling plant or to the dump. Can we just throw the card whole into the garbage can or recycling bin? If not, what does shreading do that makes it acceptable to then dispose of it in the garbage can or recycling bin?

Hi,

By the fact that the person was asking, I assumed that he or she felt uneasy about dealing with such items. They are not blessed and certainly can be discarded directly into the trash container. I should have mentioned this. Thanks for asking.
