You really need to study up on the Fatima Apparitions. I’m sure you will find it . I have a small leaflet put out by The Blue Army, Imprimatur by Most Rev. George W. Ahr S.T.D. Bishop of Trenton. saying “Certain Fashions will be introduced that will offend Our Lord very much!”; Said by Our Lady in 1917. The very fact that the Pope said that Fatima is “Worthy of Belief,” is enough to tell me it’s authentic.Go argue with the Church!, I will take Our Ladies and the Churches word for it.God Bless, Memaw
I also have a leaflet put out by Marian Helpers Center (with ecclesiastical approval), saying the same thing.

Again – what the Church considers worth of belief – is found at the Vatican site – and that supposed “message” on fashions — is Not found at the Vatican.

This conversation brings to mind a memory of my parents in their 80s (and may lighten up the contentious nature of this dialog):

My folks dressed in what I guess would be dressy clothing, though not fussy, to church. Dad always wore (what was basically his uniform) khaki or dress pants, long sleeved shirt (except in July & August), and a vest with a tie, and mom in dressy pants or skirt, blouse, etc.

Well, one Sunday, my mom looked over at my dad in the pew, and here he was, sitting their with his vest inside out! She began to whisper loudly “I can’t believe it! You can’t even get yourself dressed for church! What’s wrong with you???” He excused himself and changed his vest around in the men’s room. So, as they were leaving the sanctuary that day, my mother happened to look down at her skirt, and her skirt was inside out! She was so embarrassed and so chagrined; they laughed about it later and decided they needed a helper to dress them both before they went anywhere!

As a girl, we always wore dresses and “party shoes” to church, a hat, and gloves! I have no idea what boys wore because I was just so into those gloves - especially if they had the pearl button on the wrist!

“Certain Fashions will be introduced that will offend Our Lord very much!”;
I am not at all surprised that certain fashions would offend Our Lord; they offend ME! Let’s see, in 1917, women worldwide were still in ankle length dresses, with headgear of some type. Men were in dark pants and white shirts, except in the Islamic and African nations, and in the entire continent of South America.

Certainly the least immodest of cultures has to be those folks in the Arctic regions - no wrists or ankles exposed there!

But I truly will go to my grave knowing that God does not love me less, nor does God want me to miss mass, because I wear pants, or sneakers, or knit shirts.

What about makeup? tattoos? even jewelry? While maybe not directly related to modesty, all of these could spell trouble to those in the pews looking with wandering eyes.

I don’t want to continue the derailment of this thread. But I have to address the attack on the message of Fatima. The Vatican has approved the apparitions at Fatima and the writing of Lucia’s memoirs which is mentioned on the Fatima website. I believe it was in those memoirs that Lucia mentioned how greatly our Lord was offended by certain fashions that would be introduced. The Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima, the official organization to promote the message of Fatima began in the United States in 1946. Because of its quick spread around the world becoming an international organization, it was necessary to change the name to the World Apostolate of Fatima. This is the official organization approved by the Holy See.

Instead of pushing what the Church does not – think of this when attending Mass throwing mental stones/daggers at others for what is worn.
Pope Francis
On How We Live the Eucharist
“Through the Eucharist, Christ wants to enter into our existence and permeate it with His grace,”
Dear Brothers and Sisters, good morning!
In the last catechesis I highlighted that the Eucharist introduces us to real communion with Jesus and His mystery. Now we can ask ourselves some questions regarding the relation between the Eucharist we celebrate and our life, as Church and as individual Christians. We ask ourselves: how do we live the Eucharist? When we go to Mass on Sunday, how do we live it?Is it only a moment of celebration, a consolidated tradition, an occasion to meet with one another and feel well, or is it something more?
There are very concrete signs to understand how we live all this, how we live the Eucharist; signs that tell us if we live the Eucharist well or if we don’t live it too well. The first indication is our way of looking at and of considering others. In the Eucharist Christ always acts anew the gift of Himself that he made on the Cross. His whole life was an act of total sharing of Himself out of love; that is why He loved to be with the disciples and with the people He was able to meet. For Him this meant sharing their desires, their problems, what agitated their soul and their life. Now we, when we participate in the Holy Mass, we meet with men and women of all kinds: young people, elderly people, children, poor people and the well-off, native to the place and foreigners, accompanies by relatives or alone … However, does the Eucharist I celebrate lead me to truly regard them all as brothers and sisters? Does it make my capacity grow to rejoice with the joyful and to weep with those who weep? Does it push me to go to the poor, the sick, the marginalized? Does it help me to recognize Jesus’ face in them? We all go to Mass because we love Jesus and we want to share in the Eucharist his Passion and Resurrection. But do we love, as Jesus wants, those brothers and sisters that are most in need? For example, in Rome in these days we have see so many social hardships or because of the rain, which has done so much damage to entire neighborhoods, or for the lack of work, consequences of the economic crisis in the whole world. I ask myself, and each one us should ask themselves:** I, who go to Mass, how do I live this? Do I make sure to help, to come close to, to pray for those who have this problem? Or am I a little indifferent? Or maybe I’m concerned with gossip: Have you seen how that woman is dressed, or how that man is dressed?** Sometimes this is done, after Mass, and it shouldn’t be done! We should worry about our brothers and our sister that are in need because of a sickness, a problem. Today, it would do us well to think of these our brothers and sisters that have these problems here in Rome: problems caused by the tragedy provoked by the rain, social problems and work. Let us ask Jesus, who we received in the Eucharist, to help us to help them.
A second, very important indication is the grace of feeling oneself forgiven and ready to forgive. Sometimes there are those who ask: “”Why should we go to church given that those who habitually take part in the Holy Mass are sinners like others?” How many times have we heard that! In reality, one who celebrates the Eucharist doesn’t do so because he believes, or wants to appear better than others, but precisely because he sees himself always in need of being received and regenerated by the mercy of God, made flesh in Jesus Christ. If each one of us does not feel in need of the mercy of God, does not feel like a sinner, it is better that they do not go to Mass! We go to Mass because we are sinners and we want to received the forgiveness of God, to participate in the redemption of Jesus,in his forgiveness. That “I confess” which we say at the beginning is not a “pro forma,” it is a true act of penance! I am a sinner and I confess it, that is how the Mass begins! We must never forget that Jesus’ Last Supper took place “on the night He was betrayed” (1 Corinthians 11:23). Renewed every time in that bread and wine that we offer and around which we gather, is the gift of the Body and Blood of Christ for the remission of our sins. We should go to Mass humbly, as sinners and the Lord reconciles us.—

Isnt Fatima part of the “private revelation” rules?

Wow! I would think the important thing is to just get folks to attend mass and not worry about what they wear. BTW: What would be so terribly wrong with wearing shorts to mass during the hot summer months?

I attended mass last night at 5:30. It was close to being 100 degrees. There were many people dressed in shorts or capris and loads of children attending too. In no way did the service seem disrespectful or shallow. The priest was wearing Birkinstocks!!😉

I had vowed not to enter the thread again, but I have to say this:

For people to argue unceasingly, without ever saying that the majority of people can have their own opinion, which disagrees with yours, and is not MANDATED by the Church and then to end every angry post with the disingenuous, “God Bless” is really awful.
I do not care to be “blessed” by anyone who cannot charitably have a discussion on these boards.
We should not manipulate Our Lord or even Our Lady of Fatima to our own ends. If people really meant those words, they would have dropped it 100 posts ago.
I’m out.
