OP,

Do you have your own means of getting to Mass? A car owned by your parents is not your own means of getting to Mass.

Could you go without suffering serious negative consequences?

If the answer to either of these is no, then there is no obligation.

The answer to that question is probably no, so I think you’re fine. You aren’t obliged to go during a blizzard just because it might not kill you. Likewise here.

@(name removed by moderator) it sounds like you’re trying to pile on guilt or requirements where they’re not warranted. The OP already feels bad about missing Mass. And people going off for a day at the beach don’t usually take a tv along with them.

@theCardinalbird be at peace. God doesn’t ask us to do the impossible. Enjoy the day with your family and enjoy being in God’s creation. Pray as you are able, go to Mass if you are able, but don’t worry if it’s not possible.

Yeah, Cajun, I’m sure you mean well but it really is out of his hands. OP sounds like an anxious kid who is especially prone to guilt. I think the best thing we can do is remind him that if he’s missing mass through no fault of his own, there’s no sin.

Be at peace, Cardinal Bird. For you it is a disappointment but not a sin. Your parents have made plans and there is nothing you can do about it without causing offense to your parents and family members. Try to enjoy the beach and the time with your family, thereby giving honor to your parents.

This might happen again over the summer. Other weekends you might be able to make the Saturday evening Mass, but if you can’t, don’t get anxious about it. Maybe some good will come of it. It will make you appreciate the Mass even more. 🙂
