Dumb question. Are there any problems with having Mass said at your local parish for the repose of the soul of a friend who is not catholic or for someone who belongs to another parish? Thank you!

No,it’s perfectly acceptable. My own parish has such a backlog of Mass intentions that I generally give them to my old home parish in another city, or to my sister’s parish. And it is OK to have a Mass said for a non-Catholic.

I might add that in addition to requesting a specific Mass intention by the priest, everyone present at a Mass is free to offer their own participation in the Mass for their own particular intentions. Prayers such as this, where we join our intentions to those of the Eucharistic sacrifice offered by Jesus to the Father, are very powerful.

It is a good thing to request those Masses, If your parish is backlogged Catholic Missions can offer Mass for your friends without too much of a delay and your donation will support a poor priest !

I want to have somes Masses said for a deceased loved one. I have a card from Seraphic Mass Association. Is this association legitimate?
When I enroll my loved one for Masses, how many Masses are said? It doesn’t say, and how many Masses should one have said for a loved one??
Thank-you!
Joanne

go for it…but when you write the organization, ask them if this is one time, perpetual, one year…perfectly legitimate question.

**Also a good idea is to send money to missionary priests to have a Mass said for your loved ones. They could really use the money and they don’t have a backlog to contend with. Of course, our own parishes need money as well, but seeing what some of the missionary parishes are dealing with, you may want to consider this:

I hope this helps.

They look to be legitimate. Here’s their website: capuchin.com/sma/.
