Dear Catholic Friends.

There is much interest in the Mass, as there should be since it is the very heart of our Faith.
Training for Priests and Deacons has started for the Mass to be instituted sometime in 2011.

As far as I can tell - - - -
Mass will still be able to be said in Latin or the vernacular. In the USA, some Parishes have one Latin Mass and the others in the vernacular. I think this is up to the Pastor, since he knows his Parish best.

As far as I can tell - - - -
You will still be able to receive Communion on your tongue or hands,
and kneeling or standing.
For reverence, the Pope recommends on the tongue and kneeling.

Our Parish Priests will make all everything clear to us sometime in 2011, when directed by our Diocese Bishops.

We are blessed through the Church with tools to help us live our lives as Faithful Catholics.
We must make use of them to form a good and correct conscience, grow in the knowledge of God, and so that we do not pass on errors including secular heresy to others.
  • A Catholic “Bible” with Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur;
  • The “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition”, revised in accord with the official Latin Text promulgated by Pope John Paul II, and first printed in the US in March 2000;
  • Third Edition of the Roman Missal (in accord with 2011 Mass);
  • Code of Canon Law annotated for those who are interested.
In 2010, Our Pope has asked that lay people help in evangelization, and be wary of enemies from not only outside but from within our Church.
In order to assist, we must know our Faith with the tools the Church has provided.

I very much look forward to the Mass changes in 2011, and renewed reverence and uniformity at every Mass throughout the USA.

Good Catholic TV and radio is EWTN. Station location and programming in your area can be found at: ewtn.com

God Bless You - and don’t forget the Rosary and Chaplet.

Do you believe this differs from the current state of the liturgy?

The only change is the English translations of the Prayers of the Mass. I think the new translations are a vast improvement over the current translations.

It IS, though, an opportunity for an improvement in sacred music as well, since all of the current music for things like the Gloria will have to be changed for the new texts.

I think a lot of us are jumping on the new translation as the instant fix for the Church… My priest today said that the Church moves slowly, and when hasty and thoughtless changes are made all of the sudden, they fail miserably (his example was the infamous spirit of Vatican II). For things to work, we must take things very very very slowly, and not expect everything to change at once.

One parishioner said later that he firmly believes our generation (late teens/early twenties) will see the Church restored to glory in our lifetime. I really do hope so!!

Websites like CAF help us to stay connected, because I know a lot of local areas that remain ignorant and detatched from what Rome says. These places need our prayers, and oftentimes a new bishop :o The more knowledgeable we are, the less spin we get from clergy with an agenda, the better off we will be in the future 🙂

In younger people there really is a passion for the Truth and for Tradition… the Holy Spirit really works subtly within our hearts until we try out wearing a chapel veil, or kneeling to receive, or frequenting adoration, or falling in love with Latin 🙂 Young people, the future of the Church, REALLY need prayers that we don’t get misguided and turned off by the remnants of the Spirit of Vatican II, in Lifeteen and other irrelevant youth programs and events.

Yes, I’ve had the opportunity to live in various parts of the US.
Even the Good Cardinal mentions some US Churches that have removed kneelers for kneeling at the Consecration.
2011 is an opportunity for exactness, holiness, respectfullness and uniformity.

If the Faithful know exactly what to expect, it will happen. 👍
All the links give the “facts”, rather than opinion of a blogger.

Regarding Vatican II.
  • As far as I have been able to discern, Vatican II was not the problem.
Things were done that were never envisioned by Rome due to US Theologians who decided that they knew better.
The real teachings of Vatcian II have not changed and are in effect.
This is what had alter rails removed etc. (Note: Mother Angelica of EWTN built the large Shrine with an alter rail.)
People moved tabernacles into areas of some Churches where they were not prominently located.
In some Churches people were told they had to stand during Consecration which was a wrong direction.
Thanks to the internet & Vatican web site, more lay Catholics are becoming informed.
Working with their Bishops more Catholics are demanding that their parishes throw out some of the garbage recommendations of some US Theologians that had been implimented falsely under the name of Vatican II.

The “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition” first printed in the US in March 2000, includes the REAL teachings from Vatican II, as well as the others.

If we want things done correctly when they don’t seem right, none of us can be a nebbish. Those days are gone.
Do your homework. Let your Priest know if there is an issue. If the issue continues, contact your Bishop.
We can’t let some Churches get hijacked again.

I don’t think the new translations are an instant cure-all, but they certainly are a giant leap in the right direction. And they can serve as an impetus for even more immediate steps in the same direction, particularly in the field of liturgical music.

I am of the general opinion that if the Holy Father lives another 5-10 years we’ll see a Benedictine Missal. :twocents:

I wonder if a third edition of the Catechism will be released to reflect the Extraordinary Form?.

Sounds like you are mixing up the Missal and the Catechism.
Have you read the Catechism? - Teachings of Faith and Morals.
Missal and Canon Law - particulars of Mass.

I guess I do not understand what you believe will be remarkably different in 2011 (aside the English translation of liturgy). 🤷

Are you talking about options of Priests of what to include and not to include, verbiage, details of prayers that are said etc.?
It’s on USCCB web site. That is why I posted link in original posting so I would not make an error. Let the Bishops do the explaining not me.

This is repeat: Training for Priests and Deacons has started for the Mass to be instituted sometime in 2011.
Changes have been made to Roman Missal.

Changes have been made to the English translation of the Roman Missal.

I am talking about: Why does this cause you to *very much look forward to the Mass changes in 2011, and renewed reverence and uniformity at every Mass throughout the USA *?

The changes to be instituted the first Sunday of Advent 2011 involve the English translation of the Mass, and do not touch on any aspect of the Latin Mass except to render the meaning of the English more accurate in line with the original Latin. They don’t have anything to do with manner of reception of communion or other practices, just cleaning up the English language version. Our pastor has already begun to prepare us, and will continue to do so in the intervening time at regular intervals. We will also start doing this in CCD for students, catechists and parents so hopefully parishioners will be prepared. as a side note CAtholics who regularly attend Mass in Spanish as well as English will see the two come more into line, as the Spanish translation never varied as much from the Latin, I guess because of the similarities of the languages.

Yes.
Uniformity in US is important. Most will agree on that.
I was at a Mass a few weeks ago where a Priest completely left out any Creed.

The (correct) translation from Latin is important because it is more reverant, more beautiful. Sounds less Protestant to me.
I like the Creed using the word “I” since I have no clue what the internal beliefs of others are. “We” is pushing the envelope. As we know, some Catholics do not follow Church teachings.
These are my personal opinons.

Separate topic - The CCC, 2nd Ed had to be redone due to translation errors. So it was revised in accordance with the official Latin text promulgated by Pope John Pual II, and first printed in US in March 2000.

To me using the correct translations are “keeping it honest”.

The “2011” implementation is the first full implementation of the 2001/2002 3rd Edition of the Roman Missal. There are slight textual change in the Latin, slight changes in the GIRM (already implemented in many places) and Redemptionis Sacramentum (also not yet implemented everywhere).
I don’t think the new translations are an instant cure-all, but they certainly are a giant leap in the right direction. And they can serve as an impetus for even more immediate steps in the same direction, particularly in the field of liturgical music.

As Fr Kocik put it: we are in the process of making the reform fully Catholic, after that comes the reform of the reform (the fun part!).

How do you see this being prevented in the future?

When all Priests have been retrained per USSCB web either through classes or DVDs, I hope we will not have truncated Masses, and they will be uniform.
In 2011, I will be purchasing an updated Missal. I hope others will do the same.

If any Mass I attend is not in accord with the New Missal in 2011 (after the Bishops have given directions to proceed), I will tell the Priest after Mass. If it continues I will tell his Diocese Bishop. If it still continues I will email the Pope.
I hope others do the same.
If enough of us educate ourselves and do the same, this may prevent some abuses.
I hope you will join me.

Why have you not taken such steps up until now? Is a Profession of Faith not already called for on Sundays and Solemnities?

I’m afraid you’re in for a disappointment. There is little that is changing about the way Mass is celebrated. Priests have had the rubrics in front of their noses since the first ‘Sacramentary’ was published. Those who don’t “do the red” now will most likely continue to ignore what is written and do their own thing in 2011.

I don’t for one minute expect that the priests who bow instead of genuflect now at consecration and before Communion will change their ways just because a new book is published.

BTW, at what Mass was the Creed not recited, Sunday or daily Mass?

my two cents…if i were pope benedict i would see this as a perfect opportunity to add some small things back into the order of Mass, like oh idk…the Prayers at the Foot of the Altar perhaps, or even the elusive Confiteor before communion…thye will be eventually, ill bet money on it, that they will be part of the OF order of mass before I die, if not possibly even before im ordained(God willing…in reference to both ;)…) anyway, I am also very excited for these changes and hope it will instill reverence in the priests and people…i think all we need to worry about are the older less orthodox priests, who will be retiring soon anyway, and the younger priests and seminarians who will be jumping right into this new translation are already much more traditional and revereant then some of their older counterparts(ALTHOGH HOLINESS IS NOT GOVEREND BY MOTIONS OF COURSE THOUGH LINKED…) anyway, itll be very interesting to watch the show play out…🍿

No, nothing big for 5 years, at least. (And the second Confiteor won’t be coming back to either form, sorry). There are locales that have put off RS waiting for this translation.
