Mass in Montreal

I’m getting married on Saturday (yay!) and going to Montreal for the honeymoon.

Two questions, anyone here know of orthodox reverent church to attend and any cool catholic things to see that may be off the beaten track.

Also, for our Mass we’re doing an ad orientam NO w/ the Propers for the music.

The Basilica (in the old town) is beautiful. The Mass was reverent (NO in French).

There is also a TLM, but it is far from the center of the city.

I second the idea of the Basilica (Basilique Notre Dame). I went there a long time ago and thought I’d died and gone to heaven. 😃

There are several Masses on the weekend, one on Saturday and several on Sunday. All of these are accompanied by the organ, the one at 11 is organ and the Basilica Choir (that’s the one I attended).
 
In addition to the Basilique Notre-Dame, don’t miss the lovely Chapelle Notre-Dame de Bon-Secours on rue St-Paul in the old part of the city. It’s one of the oldest (if not the oldest) in the city and is really very charming. Then there’s also the Oratoire St-Jospeh, with it’s steps, and the Cathédrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde which is rather interesting since the exterior is sort of a miniaturized version of St Peter’s in Rome. Since I have never attended a service in any of them, I cannot give a “heads-up” as to what one might expect.

The Oratory is very modernist inside, I’d skip it for Mass.

The museum there on the life of Brother Andre is quite interesting however.

It is quite sad to ponder how Quebec was a bastion of the Faith, perhaps the most devout Catholic area of the world, until the 1960’s, and now it is one of the least.

Thanks for all the advices and help. We ended up going to the basilique in old town for the choir mass and it was beautiful.

The Oratory itself is quite modernistic, but the lower chapel is very nice and had a reverent English noon Mass when we were there.

It also has a nice giftshop nearby too.
