Mass in schools, what some students are doing

I found this horrible. We had Mass yesterday, as is was a Holy Day and I go to a Catholic school.

I found out today, that some of the upperclassmen went to take the Eucharist more then once, putting the Host in their pockets and seeing how many they could get. One Senior took a host and drew a smily on it with sharpie! (He was suspended)

I can’t believe this, that these people have no respect for Our Lord!
While I was reading this I expected something very similar to what goes on at my school during Mass, but this made my jaw drop! The body of Christ isn’t something you take into your pocket, let alone draw on! This is just another example of ignorance to the faith, where are the parents and what are they teaching or not teaching?!

The high school must have a number of clubs. One suggestion is to start an Eucharist Adoration Society.

Members of the society would meet like any other club, and spend one hour per week praying together in front of the Blessed Sacrament.

That kid should have been expelled, but not before having his parents called down to the school office and making them all be properly catechized together. Any kid who has been raised in the Faith would be repulsed by that desecration.

Wow! Getting a little harsh aren’t we? That’s an awfully huge punishment. I think suspension is even a little too harsh. What’s worse, getting drawn on or getting digested by stomich acid?
Those kids obviously don’t care about being Catholic, so I don’t find the punishment harsh at all. That is just sick. It’s worse than sick!!! It is just disgusting!!! And how can you believe in Mary, if you don’t believe in God, since Mary is the Mother of God? How can you be Catholic if you don’t believe in God, since God started Catholicism???

Obviously I know nothing about the offenders, but given the lack of proper catechesis these days, I would suspect the kid had no idea how serious the matter really is. —KCT
Which is fortunate. If I remember correctly the penalty for desecration of the Eucharist is automatic excommunication.

I suppose the student involved is exempted on the grounds that he did not know of the penalty. I wonder if the same applies to the celebrant and the school officials?

What DJ Roy posted would be the tip of the iceberg if I was there. Let’s just say things wouldn’t get too pretty.

I can understand though that this happened in our school, sadly. Our religion classes are a little… weak to say the least. We don’t learn much, all I know I learned from my father.

I shall bring this up with the priest and the principal, since students were punished, I’m assuming that they know about it. I’ll ask the priest to talk to us about it.

It is satanism, and just plain stupid. How can you say you believe and then do that! The boy that drew on the Host, I know him, he’s a friend of my own friend. He’s not the type of person to show respect, to anything or anyone. :crying:

What kind of a world do we live in anyways! Abortion, contraceptives, and now, doodling on the Host! … 😦

Very Very Simple Solution: NO MORE taking the host in the hand!

This would end many abuses.

I don’t understand why they don’t go back to the tongue. Big deal.

This story would have never taken place.

Have you ever heard of a joke before?

wow that is just heartbreaking! Not too surprising though. I also went to a Catholic high school and the catechesis there was horrible. We had Mass in the gym occasionally and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of my classmates tried to pull something like that, though I never heard of it happening. It isn’t just poor catechesis, it’s also childish teenage rebellion, trying to be shocking, trying to be disrespectful, etc. Definitely report what happened to the priest. I hope your school institutes something to better educate kids about the Eucharist and cracks down at the next Mass to make sure this doesn’t happen again (ie, have someone make sure that everyone consumes the host immediately).

i think that is outrageous. i attended a catholic school as well and while nobody tried to do that, they did do something similar. SOME of the Catholic students would take the Communion and pretend to eat it and then bring it back to the nonCatholic students so that they could try it. I find that terrible and sinful.

I know you were making an attempt to be funny. But Led, that wasn’t funny. Not only was it not funny - it was sacreligious.

Obviously you have no idea of what the Eucharist is. If you knew you what you are talking about, you wouldn’t be so flippant. You chose the correct “thing” to attack in Catholicity to be the most sinful. You talk like an Atheist or a Muslim.

Led Z. , Your attempt at humor was nothing but an ignorant attempt to desecrate the most Holy of Holies on earth. You spoke like an Atheist full of hate.

funny how atheists busy themselves with things of God. That Eucharist story made me gasp. Fast and pray. Lots of Catholic schools aren’t very Catholic, my two kids attend one and it’s rather scary at times.

peace and love
