Mass in the Basement?

We’re so quick to scream, “ABUSE!” every time the priest does something we think is contrary to the Law.

Perhaps we should be more introspective and see if we’re doing something bad that is causing him to do something contrary to the Law as a result.

AMEN!!! I’m growing tired from all this abuse talk. Maybe if one thought in the ways of Christ one would think’Hmmm. instead of heating this huge church for triple the money we spent last year lets maybe suffer a little ourselves and still be able to take care of the poor too!!! I applaud your pastor and I believe your congregation should too!!! Be happy and give praise that you have someplace to whorship. I’m ranting and I apologize for that.

Kind of off topic, but I personally hate being in a Church full of people in their winter jackets… I find most winter jackets make a great deal more noise when people move around than normal clothes.

I know I’ve said this before but here goes…You have OBVIOUSLY never been in a 100+ year old church in northern minnesota in january. The Holy Water will freeze in the font!!

Coming from someone who lives in Minnesota - . I do understand how having coats on is kinda odd, but it can get really cold.

Depends on the basement. St. Alphonsus on Wellington in Chicago used to have a lovely basement chapel, where in past years Mass was celebrated in German. It was also the place to stuff the “folkies” during Guitar Mass, the Hungarians during “Gypsy” Mass, and the kids after the 70s for Children’s Mass (not before then- too many kids). But it was pretty enough and reverent enough a space to accomodate a small wedding.

Depends on how the building is constructed. Now to my mind, I would think it would be just as cold, if not colder, in the basement. Is the Blessed Sacrament “wintering” in the basement as well?

The Basilica of St. Ann in Scranton has a rather large chapel in its basement. It can hold about 300-400 people.

I agree. Jesus was born in a cattle stall. I, too get tired of all the nit-picking about every little thing, just looking for something to complain about while forgetting the people around us who need our help.
