This is my favorite “Mass in the Movies” scene. It’s from True Confessions, and the priest is Robert DeNiro. He actually memorized the whole TLM and insisted on filming the whole thing. I think he did it a few times, and then the editors took the best parts to make the opening scene you see below.

While I can’t recommend the movie, itself, the opening is beautiful.

Btw, did anyone notice they sang the “Deo Gratias” from the end of Mass right after the offeratory prayer? Oh, Hollywood. I’m glad they skipped the consecrations, all the same.

I haven’t see the picture, but if it’s commuion on the toungue and the host only it could’nt be CofE.

Yeah.

DeNiro did the whole Mass from beginning to end many times. He memorized the whole thing and demanded that there be no stops. He did it the whole way through each time. Hollywood cut and pasted scenes because they couldn’t do the whole Mass.

The consecration of the Precious Blood is in the movie clip I linked.

I love how they felt the need to stick in the obligatory incense-induced asthma attack. :rolleyes:

I thought that was the mixing of the water and wine prior to the consecration but I must have simply missed the bells.

I love watching movies that feature the old Mass. I think they’re a lot coming out this year. In There Be Dragons there is a wonderful scenes where St. Josemaria shows concern for the Blessed Sacrament above his life when the reds come knocking during Mass; it’s very inspiring.

I enjoyed the movie but then I love horses. I would love to train my horse to come to an owl call!

He memorized the whole Mass?! WOW - that is a guy that takes his craft seriously. Props to him.

I did notice some odd things - like during the offertory they are singing a Brahms Ave Maria. Oh well.

I bought the DVD last week. I like it. I wouldn’t consider it an accurate portrayal of the nature of horses, but putting that aside, it has some very touching scenes. I confess to crying a few times.

I thought the No-Man’s-Land barbed wire scene with the English and German soldier was very well done. What did you think?

What I would like to know is HOW they did it with a live horse:eek: or was it all digital.
 
And then there was The Boondock Saints, a well-meaning but tacky and horrendously inaccurate representation of Catholicism. In the beginning, Connor and Murphy are praying the rosary (around their necks) during Mass. But, the priest is leading the Our Father, then everyone sits down and the monsignor starts giving a homily 🤷 And then they leave while the priest is talking, going up and kissing the feet of Jesus on the big crucifix!. Ugh, and to think I actually once upon a time was an accurate Catholic movie! :eek:
