Hi all, maybe someone can help me find the answer to this question. We have a group of us at church that are learning through the dvd edward sri’s A Biblical walk through the Mass. It is very interesting and we are trying to complete it during lent. We are about half way through. Our leader had a question about a statement Sri made on the section about readings. So I thought I would ask. He said that much of the bible is read in the 3 years but on sundays only. Hmmm we are wondering how much is covered during the daily readings. Or don’t they really count as readings? Are they the same every 3 years? Do they just have to do with the saints? There is a gospel read daily so is this part of the bible through the mass? I am not sure if I am understanding. We are meeting on wed nights so if I get an answer I can tell him. If you have a link that would be great. Our priest is very ill again and I could as another but to get a link would be good. thanks for responses 🙂

For most weekday masses, there is a reading (either Old Testament or Epistles), a Psalm and a Gospel reading. This is a two year cycle. So right now we are in Sunday cycle B and weekday cycle II. Here is an interesting site that shows you what percentage of what books we hear at Mass.
 
Here are the exact figures, broken down into percentages by each individual book, both for Sundays and weekdays.

The short answer is:
Old Testament
Sundays and Major Feast Days only: 3.5% is read throughout the cycle
Sundays and Weekdays together: 13.5% is read throughout the cycle.

New Testament
Sundays and Major Feast Days only: 40.8% is read throughout the cycle
Sundays and Weekdays together: 71.5% is read throughout the cycle
 
One of the books used in the mass, I think it is the one the priest uses on the altar, has a table in the back. It identifies by book, chapter, and verse the texts used in the various masses - Sundays, Weekdays and others.
