A few minor differences, there’s no psalm, instead the Gradual is chanted. The recessional is on a magnificent pipe organ; the titular organist is the abbot and is a wonderful organist. The schola is of course made up of the best voices among the monks. They chant from the choir, which is between the sanctuary and the nave in the classic monastic layout.

There’s no communion rail, being a benedictine monastery, people receive communion at the enclosure gate, standing.

To be honest, none of the above. I wouldn’t go out of my way to include hand-holding, but I wouldn’t force people to stop it either.

To be honest, what I would do as a personal preference would make communion under both species mandatory through intinction. 😃 It by far makes the most sense as a way to receive communion and is a much greater sign of the resurrection of Christ than receiving under one or the other, or even under both seperately.
 
I like all the things mentioned, but I’d prefer for them to be omitted than done badly. A good guitarist is better than a badly done grand piano. Simply sung english is better than fancy latin settings sung by people who don’t know them.
 
The Mass is not something to be marketed.

We all have personal preferences whether it is the extraordinary form, the ordinary form, (as well as other rites such as Maronite). Some like to hear lots of singing, some like it ‘spoken’. Some like contemporary music, some like chant, some like a ‘mix’. Some people are very ‘community’ oriented in gesture (hand holding, lots of emphasis on people ‘doing’); some are more quietly community oriented in gesture (joining with others in silent prayer, more *contemplative in a communal *way). Some like the ‘community, meal’ aspect of the Mass, some the ‘sacrificial, timeless offering’ aspect, many of both groups know and respect BOTh aspects. Some are casual in dress, some are more formal, many of both groups do so from personal piety and totally respect the other ‘POV’ equally. Some wish to keep what they consider the ‘best’ parts of the "modern’ Mass such as "MY language’ and "seeing what goes on’; some wish to keep what they consider the best parts of tradition such as the ‘older’ practices of benediction, ad orientum, processionals, devotions to various saints,and above all Adoration and the rosary. MOST of those in either group respect the other POV even if they do not particularly care for the practice and would willingly compromise and have BOTH things kept, either alternating things such as having Mass celebrated at one Sunday liturgy ad orientem and the other times facing the people, or having a ‘vernacular’ Mass but also incorporating benediction and things like the Saint Anthony procession along WITH that Mass.

I think we could get along with much less distress on EVERYBODY’S part if both sides would compromise more. However, quite often (and again, this is BOTH sides, people) you get somebody who is sure that, if their Mass is ‘modern’, that simply having one Mass on a Sunday with benediction will mean that 'the modern Mass will be hijacked by the Traddies". . .and if their Mass is more ‘traditional’, that simply having one Mass on a Sunday with ‘contemporary’ music will mean that their beloved Mass will be ‘hijacked by the godless modernists.’

Sad but all too familiar and we have seen umpteen threads which bear this out. . .
 
I have a great idea. At least once a year, everyone should go to a mass that’s completely different from what they usually attend.
 
I vote holding hands and singing. I wouldn’t want to get rid of the singing, I would change it drastically. I already do not hold hands during the Our Father, but it would be nice not to be looked at like a Satanist for keeping to myself. :rolleyes:
 
The only thing I’d omit is the one thing that isn’t an official part of Mass - hand holding. If the rest of it is good enough for the Holy Father, it’s good enough for me. I like to sing, though perhaps not the stuff we sing most of the time, and I think the Sign of Peace has meaning. I like receiving under both species, even if I know it’s not necessary.
 
I’d add more instead of omitting. I’ll create a hybrid Liturgy which takes certain elements from the different Rites, although it will center mostly around a Roman-Byzantine hybrid, which a few things thrown in from the Oriental Rites.

People don’t wonder about to shake hands etc - they stay in their pews mostly

And I like to hear everybody sing - even the tone deaf.

And we just got a 8 foot tall statue of St Leo the Great our patron - so life is good.

So I need none of the above in order to vote.
