Out school to-day conducted a “mass of the Holy Spirit”, which was almost satisfactory to convince me of two things:
  1. The school is not Catholic.
  2. I am really a Hinduistic-Evangelical being lied to.
When the mass began, the choir sang a sort of jazzy plainsong (more a modernist mockery thereof), repeating only three words, “veni creator Spritus”. Meantime, two girls (puellae) holding bowls of incense proceeded to pontificate hither and thither across the sanctuary, showing (though this is quibble compared to this ‘new ritual’) no reverence to the altar as they passed it. Earlier in the day I had heard mention of incense and become excited…silly me.

Then mass began, with the wonderful accompaniment of bongo drums and guitars. It was some generic hymn about ourselves, to ourselves, but this again was quibble.

The sermon was about how all the sacraments can do is create dry bones, and one really needs to ask God to personally come into one’s heart if they wish to have a living faith, all whilst apologetically singing generic praises about how vital a skeleton was to the body.

The lack of kneeling during the consecration is partially excusable, but only because the mass was held in the gymnasium.

Welcome to the new school year…now I recall why I came here in the first place.

Not surprising. Not good, but not surprising.

Perhaps you should volunteer for the Liturgy Committee. 😃

Would it help if I told you our pastor is a racing buff, has his own race car, and uses his homilies at times to make veiled pleas for race car parts? My granddaughter, age 7, translated one of his recent ones to mean, “Have your back end welded on or you’ll lose in the first few minutes of the race. We should all listen to St. Ghandhi and kill all of Hezbollah, then raise their children as our own. Father would like a new Pontiac.”

Fortunately, we have been spared the incense bowls during school Masses. On a happier note, the entire school is learning Tantum Ergo in Latin, K-8.

Having attended a Mass of the Holy Spirit, your experience is not, I guess unusual. In the one I attended, there was no kneeling at all anywhere, anytime as the resurrection posture is of course the correct posture at all times during Mass. Standing is the resurrection posture you know.

The readings were hand picked by the Presider, and really had nothing to do as much with the Holy Spirit as with the eternal and glorious dignity of man.

The prayers of petition were nice as everyone called out their own from the congregation. Side note: I actually remember them doing that back in the 70’s . I thought it was a practice long since forgotten.

The Mass itself was basically ad libbed throughout up to and including the Consecration, during which everyone present was told to encircle the altar, hold hands and reflect. Reflect on what was left to the imagination.

I particularly admired the new, streamlined and apparently improved version of the Agnus Dei which consisted of the Presider elevating the Host to about the level of his sternum and saying

“Behold Jesus”

We were also told that while this was a Mass of the Holy Spirit, it was also a Missa Corona. Whatever that is.

Alas, there was no music at all.

I am on the Liturgy Commitee. At the first meeting, I earned a speech from the modernists (everyone else, except one) about how the people are the most important when deciding on music.

“It’s about the we, not the me”, as she said.

Myself, I contend it is really about the “He” not the “we”.

I shall persist and do whatever good I can. On a brighter note, my organ playing apparently impressed the liturgist, and I am organist (though I am inept at comtemporary songs and so do not have to participate in the butchery). Perhaps the traditional instrument shall lead to traditional hymns?

Bad liturgical music? Questionable actions done by questionable persons? Unmeaningful and vague homily? You must be going to my school! 😃

Just wait until some of the teachers accuse the Church of being racist, the female Chaplain starts preaching modernism and relativism and a gay couple makes out in the hall.

Have a good year 👍

You are not far wrong. Check this link timesonline.co.uk/article/0,2-2348095,00.html for an Anglican priest now Hindu who thinks he can combine the two as “all religions are cultural constructs” don’t you know.

No matter how insane some parishes, schools etc are I thank God every day for the Magisterium which keeps the Church if not all its members on the straight and narrow.

One can only hope.

Thank you for the uplifting words, Caesar ;).

Indeed, we can only hope.

This is the best post I’ve seen in awhile. Brilliantly dry wit.

What in blazes has this to do with my original posting? I am not schismatic, nor do I intend to therewith involve myself.

Sorry, I thought at first you were involved with SSPX as well, the graphic threw me off.

Its a common problem. Believe me, I went to “Catholic” school where it was the fashion to call yourself Wiccan or Atheist, depending on if you wanted the cool Tech crowd or the creepy gothic crowd.

No, I am not SSPX, just love the Latin Mass and decided to have a picture of it in my signature. I am involved with the indult Latin Mass society at our Cathedral Basilica (why in blazes would I attend an SSPX little chapel? 😉 ). Also, Pius XII is a hero of mine and therefore I included his name in my pseudonym.

Hey, have at it. The Latin Mass offers many rich rewards.

Vast differance between a traditionalist loyal to the Church, and a schismatic hypocrit.

I go to a Catholic school. This year we are proud to host a talk by a liberal activist on why gay marriage is right, and because we have a high population of Hispanics, some speakers are coming in to talk to us about the rich religious heritiage of Central America before Christianity. Of course we could recieve the same benifit we could get out of any of these speakers by talking to 8/10 teachers and 499/500 students. Our school is proud of it’s fine Catholic education 👍

It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who slam the SSPX for being disobedient to the Pope and then moan and complain about the insanity that goes on in their diocese. Also, for those who attend the indult Masses, do you honestly think they would be as widely available as they are if it were not for the SSPX and other independant Roman Catholic Priests?

With all these posts about how crappy Catholic Schools are over in America, I’m glad I went to a public high school…
Even though I’d have loved to do religious studies…

And I’m glad to have never experienced a “Mass of the Holy Spirit”…
THough I went to a healing mass once…
My, it was horrible…

:extrahappy: I am baptised in the Spirit.:extrahappy: I have danced in the spirit, I speak in tongue. LET ME TELL YOU WHAT IT FEELS LIKE HAVING THE HOLY SPIRIT INSIDE YOU.

I will describe it the same way the bible says ‘I feel a river of living water runing in all my body’ It is amazing. I feel a fire inside me runing for all my body as living water. My body shakes and my tongue talks along a language that I don’t know.

Also, I feel the happiness Jesus promised. This is a happiness that is inside me all the time. If i have money to eat or not always I am happy. And the peace that I got from Jesus is undescriptible. Sometimes you want to have peace and you think well if I live alone I will get it because my family is hard to live with. However, let me tell you that you only get loneliness and frustation but not peace. However, the real peace is in Jesus and Jesus is inside us. This is a peace that never abandons you. You may have problem with everybody in your house but you have a special peace that takes you to happiness that even when around you only there are complains and fights.

I believe in Jesus as my enough savior and helper. I PRISE HIM WITH HAPPINESS NOT WITH SADNESS BECAUSE HE IS ALIVE! I don’t need to ask for help to any other God. Because you can make gods of everything. You can make money a god and say I am secured with my money but the faith in OUR LORD should be enough, you can make your job a god, everything that you give more or equal importance than God/Jesus you turn it into a god. But I may say, even you give less importance is a god because GOD CAN NOT BE SUBSTITUTED WITH NOTHING. You may say "that is not true because I love god more than Saint ? or more than Virgen ? Also, You may say ’ I only honor Mary or Saint S… But God says that he doesn’t share his glory WITH NOBODY. "

But Jesus says:

"He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him."John 14:21

"If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love"John 15:10

THEN, WHAT IS THE FIRST COMMANDMENT? SO WE CAN SAY WE LOVE GOD/JESUS:

"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."Exodus 20:4

"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38This is the first and great commandment."Matthew 22:37-38

HOW TO GET BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT?

FIRST, Agree about that you are a sinner and accept Jesus as your ONLY savior. (that means that you will not pray or ask for favor to any other deity even they are identified as Jesus) JESUS IS REAL AND IS IN EVERYWHERE

SECOND, Read the bible every day. Prise the Lord with all you heart. Don’t fold your knees infront any statue. You better go to a real Christian church there you will learn the real gospel through the bible and get the guide through the BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT. It could be a Methodist, a Evangelic, Pentecostal
