The level of agita surrounding this is frankly amazing. Apparently the priest can be trusted with all the rites surrounding the confecting of the Eucharist, and custody of the Real Presence itself, but somehow he’s not to be trusted with the proper disposal of a plastic glove on which particles of the Eucharist may remain? And yes, having been on 10 cruises and having both attended Mass aboard and socialized with several priests serving the Apostleship, the ever-present danger of Noro is such that it’s beyond unlikely that this contingency hasn’t been anticipated, just as the battery-powered “candles” are a staple of shipboard Masses.

Agree. The devel of minutiae in this discussion of what is essentially a daily occurrence in a cruise ship is astounding.

Well, blessed are you who has had the privilege of going on 10 cruises and socializing with several priests serving the Apostleship :). We do not all have that luxury. I don’t know why you are so amazed at my expressing concern over the order for the priest to wear a plastic glove while distributing Holy Communion. I have not disagreed with the decision that obviously was made to protect people from some disease that I rarely hear about in my socializing circles. I have only expressed my concern wondering if proper consideration had been given by the proper authority to permit it. It amazes me why you do not understand that this is a legitimate concern.

Good question for any Eucharistic Prayer. My only “ocean” Mass was conducted back in the 50’s when we came to the states via the SS United States. Of course it was in Latin for all the immigrants.
Oh, that’s the ship that’s docked in Philadelphia!

Recently, I was in Hawaii with some of my friends on a cruise ship, and all of us wanted to go to Mass on Sunday, and had the address of a Church that was about a mile walk from the port along with the Mass times. We were to dock at 8 a.m., and then go to the 10 a.m. Mass. This itinerary is common for Norwegian in Hawaii, and there is normally an announcement made that Catholics can disembark in this port and go to Mass at 10 a.m. in Maui.

Here’s what happened - literally: A tropical storm changed our itinerary. Our cruise ship moved the departure up earlier (and Norwegian notified the whole manifest several hours early - which was good) and our group was glad we flew in 24 hours beforehand. We ended up spending all day Sunday at sea, because the port in Maui was not taking ships. Therefore, we missed Sunday Mass, and it was inevitable.

We can say we tried, and we did get into Maui at 9:00 p.m. Sunday evening, and got to spend most of Monday there.

I enjoyed attending Mass in Nassau or Freeport many years ago when I was there on a cruise.
