Mass on Television

I have been asked that if a homebound person is unable to attend mass, would watching the mass on television fulfill the obligation?

I do not know and cannot answer since I do not know the Church’s position on this. Does anyone know?

No it doesn’t, but on the other hand being homebound for valid reasons releases one from the obligation. God does not demand the impossible.

There is nothing wrong though, with watching the Mass on television.
 
EWTN has Mass every day on tv and on the internet.

Catholic Churches offer home bound communion for persons who are unable to attend Mass.

Yes, but if you are unable to attend Mass, there is no obligation to do anything specific (e.g., watch it on TV, receive Communion at home). Canon 1248 §2 of the Code of Canon Law explains:
If participation in the eucharistic celebration becomes impossible because of the absence of a sacred minister or for another grave cause, it is strongly recommended that the faithful take part in a liturgy of the word if such a liturgy is celebrated in a parish church or other sacred place according to the prescripts of the diocesan bishop or that they devote themselves to prayer for a suitable time alone, as a family, or, as the occasion permits, in groups of families.
So participating in a Communion service or engaging in prayer (such as you might do while watching a televised Mass) are strongly recommended, but not required in the same was as a healthy person is required to go to Mass.

i enjoy watching the Mass on EWTN. Its nice. Especially when your not well enough to go to Mass. let’s face it, there is not a lot of wholesome tv these days, and i triy to avoid bad tv. EWTN is a nice channel and when it has the Mass on, I like to watch it:thumbsup:
