I am a revert Catholic, still learning about all the details.
I would like to know if it’s necessary to give the name of the deceased person before the Mass, in order to be valid, or if I just bring their names to my personal prayers during Mass it would also be valid?

It’s a matter of intention, so you could either give just the Christian name, or hold the name in your heart.

You are speaking of offering the mass for the intention of a beloved deceased? Usually, there is some planning ahead required, as many parishioners ask for mass intentions. You may personally offer at any time during a mass, and as Trishie says, God knows your heart and your intention. However, you may call the parish office and inquire about offering a mass on a particular day for a specific individual. Those intentions are normally announced at the start of the mass.
